Location: NYC (Hybrid 4 days a week in-office, relocation available)An NYC multi-strategy hedge fund is standing up a brand-new central AI engineering team.

First hires. You'd be building the actual production systems, not running POCs.What you'd do: Build internal AI tooling on top of on-prem data. Orchestration, vector search and RAG into private datasets. Wire up secure interfaces to OpenAI and Anthropic APIs. Work with the Head of AI Engineering and stakeholders across investment, compliance and ops.Background that fits 4+ years of building backend systems. Strong Python plus a solid second language (Java or C++). Linux. GCP or AWS with things you've actually run in production.Background is open. Startup or mid-size where you've stood systems up yourself plays well. Fund experience is helpful but not required. Interest in AI matters more than a deep AI resume.
