Senior Software Engineer – C++ / GPU ComputingBerlin, GermanyD2S Inc. is a Silicon Valley-based technology company developing GPU-accelerated software solutions for semiconductor manufacturing. Our products are used by leading semiconductor manufacturers around the world. We are seeking an experienced software engineer who is passionate about solving hard technical problems and wants to go beyond the implementation of individual features. This role involves owning applications and deliverables throughout their lifecycle—from initial scoping and alignment with partner teams and customers through architecture, technical decisions, implementation, and future development.About D2SAt D2S, we develop software for some of the most computationally demanding problems in advanced semiconductor manufacturing, with a particular focus on computational lithography. Our applications use the massive parallel computing capabilities of GPUs, blending physical models with deep neural networks to simulate and optimize processes at the nanometer scale. We work on problems where a solution may not yet be known, where different algorithmic approaches need to be explored, and where a promising solution still needs to scale to the computational requirements of real-world semiconductor manufacturing. This creates an engineering environment in which algorithmic thinking and software engineering are closely connected. New ideas ultimately have to become robust, maintainable, high-performance production software.Who We're Looking ForBeing successful in this role requires at least 5 years of professional software development experience and strong C++ expertise. Experience with Python and CUDA is highly desirable, as is a background in performance-critical software and scientific computing, including numerical algorithms and mathematical simulations. Previous experience in semiconductor manufacturing or computational lithography is welcome but not required.More important than prior knowledge of our particular domain is the ability and desire to get deeply into complex technical subjects. There is a substantial amount of domain knowledge to acquire, and we value curiosity, analytical thinking, and the willingness to explore problems for which the right solution may not be obvious at the outset. The problems we tackle are hard not simply because the software is complex, but because the technical answer is often not known in advance. An algorithm that works in principle may not achieve the required accuracy or performance; an approach that works at one scale may not scale to production requirements. Solving these problems requires experimentation, sound engineering judgment, and the persistence to turn promising ideas into production software. We are seeking an engineer who enjoys the engineering itself but also wants responsibility for defining what needs to be built and how to get there. This role is particularly suited to someone who prefers taking ownership of deliverables that still require scoping and technical definition over focusing solely on execution. You will be expected to understand an application as a whole, work with partner teams and customers to determine what is needed, evaluate technical trade-offs, and take responsibility for moving the application forward. If that combination of deep technical engineering, open-ended problem solving, and application ownership appeals to you, we would like to hear from you.Our Berlin TeamYou will be part of our team in Berlin while collaborating closely with colleagues in Silicon Valley and across D2S. You will be employed by D2S Inc. with your work location in Berlin. While we support flexible work arrangements, we firmly believe in the value of regular in-person interaction. Our Berlin team therefore typically spends three days per week together in the office, with flexibility for individual needs and circumstances. Our coworking space in central Berlin offers a lively, creative setting and plenty of opportunities to exchange ideas with the people around us. We’re a small, lean team, so you’ll have the freedom to make your own decisions, move quickly, and have a real say in how we work. The role also involves travel to California, usually around twice per year, to meet with our colleagues there.Applicants must have permission to live and work in Germany.
