Loyalty at EatClub sits close to money: every point earned, reward redeemed and partner balance moved has to be tracked, reconciled and honoured correctly, so you bring ledger-grade rigors to a product squad. Much of the work crosses into payments, from card authorisations to fraud rules. This is a backend-first role in a small, high-ownership team. You will work with the squad's product manager and tech lead to take features from idea to production, and there is room to grow into full-stack work over time if that is where you want to go.On any given week, you will be:Designing and building the backend services behind our loyalty features, from earning and redemption to partner integrationsMaking sure every points balance and reward is correct, traceable and reconciled, in every marketIntegrating with loyalty and payment partners so customers can earn and redeem the way they expectKeeping loyalty reliable: investigating failures, fixing root causes and improving the signals that tell us something is wrongPartnering with product, design and our mobile engineers to ship end-to-end featuresReviewing code, protecting correctness with tests, and mentoring the engineers around youProjects you'll be working on at EatClub...Sample initiatives you may lead:Building the earn-and-redeem flows that connect dining at an EatClub venue to the loyalty programs our customers already useLaunching new loyalty partner integrations across Australia, the UK and New ZealandOwning and improving the ledger behind points and rewards so every balance is correct by design, not by manual adjustmentReconciliation tooling that lets anyone trace a reward from the meal to the partner statementImproving loyalty reliability and observability so failures are rare, visible and quickly understoodReplacing manual processes and support tickets with featuresYou have....At least 5 years of software engineering experience, with a strong backend foundation in Java or a comparable modern languageA track record of delivering significant projects end-to-end in productionExperience designing and building APIs (REST and GraphQL) and the services behind themSolid SQL and NoSQL skills, including query tuning and performance workExperience integrating with third-party partners and making those integrations reliableExperience debugging intermittent production issues to root cause and preventing recurrenceProficiency in automated testing and writing testable codeExcellent written and verbal communication, and the ability to work day to day with product and designFluency with AI development tools and judgement about where they help and where they misleadIt would be extra awesome if you also had...A background in fintech, payments or another domain where correctness is measured in centsAn understanding of ledgers and payments systems: how value is recorded, moved and reconciled, and what goes wrong when it isn'tExperience with loyalty, rewards or card-linked offer programsExperience with a serverless AWS stack (Lambda, API Gateway, AppSync, S3) and event-driven systems and TerraformAn interest in growing into full-stack work; mobile experience is not requiredExperience building automated CI/CD pipelinesA love of restaurants and dining outYou are...You are backend-first. You like the data model, the service boundary and the hard edge cases, and you want to get them rightYou are rigorous about value. A point out of place bothers you, and you design so it cannot happen twiceYou are a finisher. You take a problem from the ticket to the root cause to the shipped fix, and you check it landedYou are a systems thinker. You see how a change upstream will show up in a balance downstreamYou are a good partner. You make the product manager's and tech lead's jobs easier, not harderYou love a challenge. You are not afraid to dive into a new technology or an unfamiliar codebase and come back understanding itYou enjoy open problems. You like shaping the solution, not just building itYou are hungry. You want to grow, and you are looking for a place that will support that growthIf you do a good job...All code you implement hardens our systems, has high test coverage and improves the security and reliability of our codebaseEvery customer's points and rewards are correct, every time, in every market, with no one in the loop to make it soNew loyalty partners launch with earn, redeem and reconciliation ready on day oneWhen something fails in loyalty, we know before the customer or the partner doesLoyalty questions stop arriving as support ticketsThe engineers around you are better at building correct, well-tested services than they wereMaybe this role is not for you if....You want to live in the mobile app. This role is backend-firstYou find reconciliation and ledgers boring. They are the heart of this jobYou prefer stability and clarity, clear playbooks, and unchanging priorities over a fast-moving environmentYou like the structure and predictability you get at a large bankYou expect detailed instructions on how to design, prioritise, or sequence your workIf you're curious about what we're building, you're welcome to explore EatClub ahead of your interview.
