We're looking for a Subject Matter Expert in Military Operations, shaping the next generation of C4I systems. In this role, you'll bridge the gap between real-world military operations and advanced technology, translating operational needs, tactics, and doctrine into systems that give commanders and operators a decisive edge across land, sea, air, and joint environments.This is a unique opportunity for an experienced military professional to step into a technology-driven role, working directly with engineers, program managers, and government stakeholders to shape systems that will be fielded in real operational environments.What you'll doSupport the development of Concepts of Operations (CONOPS) across domains such as Air Force, Land Force, Navy, and Joint OperationsTranslate tactical doctrine, operational concepts, and warfighter needs into clear technical requirements for engineering teamsDefine key performance parameters and system requirements based on realistic military scenariosAct as the primary link between program managers, engineers, and government stakeholders — ensuring mission intent and operational constraints are clearly understoodParticipate in design reviews to assess how well proposed system architectures meet real operational needsHelp design test plans and validation scenarios, including digital twins, wargaming simulations, and live-fire exercisesEvaluate system prototypes against realistic threat environments and provide feedback on usability, interoperability, and mission effectivenessProvide subject matter expertise across military operations, communications, intelligence, and logisticsTrack emerging threats and adversary tactics to keep systems relevant to evolving operational needsGuide the training of AI/ML models used in operational decision-support systemsDevelop training materials and deliver briefings/training sessions to engineering teamsWork closely with UX/UI designers to ensure interfaces support fast, clear decision-making under operational pressureWhat you bringBachelor's, Master's, or PhD in a Military or Engineering-related field10+ years of active-duty military service or equivalent senior civilian experience in a military operational roleStrong understanding of C4I architecture, tactical data links, ISR, and Battle Management SystemsKnowledge of military lifecycle processes, operations, and CONOPS developmentFamiliarity with Joint Doctrine, service-specific doctrines, and NATO STANAGsUnderstanding of systems engineering practices within a defense contextExcellent communication skills, with the ability to translate operational concepts for technical audiencesStrong problem-solving skills and attention to detailSound judgment, especially when escalating complex or high-risk issuesYour consultantNick Drzymalski is Co-founder and Director of Aspire, bringing over 20 years of recruitment experience across Defence, Security and Critical Infrastructure.
