The RoleYou will lead development of the platform’s underwater mechanical, structural, installation, retrieval, and marine-interface systems, working across the full lifecycle rather than inside one specialty. We are looking for deep expertise in at least one subsea or offshore discipline, strong engineering judgment, and the ability to guide work across transport, installation, seabed support, connection, inspection, intervention, and retrieval.You will take substantial ownership of subsea design activities and serve as a technical lead within your areas of expertise. You will be expected to exercise independent engineering judgment, establish technical direction within your domain, and drive key design decisions and interfaces toward closure. As a senior engineer, you will also provide technical oversight of work performed by junior engineers, reviewing calculations, assumptions, drawings, analyses, and technical documentation and helping ensure that engineering work is technically sound, traceable, and consistent with the project design basis.You are not expected to be a specialist in every discipline listed below. You are expected to bring deep expertise in your core domain, lead within that domain, work effectively across adjacent disciplines, identify where specialist input is required, and help develop less-experienced engineers along the way.• Lead and contribute to subsea system design spanning transport, controlled lowering, seabed landing, support, connection, operation, inspection, intervention, retrieval, and decommissioning.• Translate mission, seabed environment, reactor-system requirements, marine operations, and regulatory constraints into subsea design criteria, requirements, and basis-of-design documentation.• Lead conceptual and preliminary design of foundations, restraint and guide systems, lifting interfaces, wet-mate connections, umbilicals, cable routes, protective structures, and robotic-access features.• Define, review, and justify environmental and operational load cases, including hydrostatic pressure, buoyancy and stability, currents and waves, seabed interaction and scour, seismic, lifting and transport loads, fatigue, corrosion, marine growth, and dropped objects.• Own and document key interfaces between the reactor module and surrounding marine infrastructure — mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, digital, operational, installation, and maintenance.• Develop and evaluate credible installation and retrieval concepts using heavy-lift vessels, lowering systems, guide wires, subsea intervention equipment, and other marine assets.• Work directly with our robotics and autonomy engineer to design for robotic serviceability: ROV and AUV access envelopes, docking and tooling interfaces, manipulator reach and clearances, inspection sightlines and sensor coverage, and recovery provisions. Because the plant is normally unmanned, robotic accessibility is a design requirement rather than a downstream check.• Provide technical oversight and review of subsea engineering work performed by junior engineers and external contributors, including calculations, load cases, drawings, models, specifications, assumptions, and design documentation.• Mentor junior engineers, help establish appropriate engineering methods and review practices, and support consistent technical quality across the subsea program.• Define scopes and technical inputs for specialist analyses, including structural, geotechnical, hydrodynamic, corrosion, installation, cable, and connector studies; review results and ensure they are appropriately incorporated into the system design.• Support design reviews and design-maturity gates, identify technical risks and open interfaces, and drive engineering issues toward documented resolution.• Serve as a technical counterpart to shipyards, marine contractors, equipment suppliers, consultants, and classification societies, including review of supplier and contractor deliverables.QualificationsPhD in ocean, offshore, marine, naval, mechanical, structural, or civil engineering, or a closely related discipline.• 7+ years of relevant experience in subsea systems, offshore structures, marine mechanical systems, offshore installation, naval systems, or related engineering. Exceptionally relevant graduate research may count toward part of this experience.• Deep technical foundation in at least one of: subsea systems engineering, offshore structural engineering, installation and lifting engineering, subsea connectors and intervention, marine mechanical engineering, naval architecture, or corrosion and materials, with demonstrated ability to work effectively across adjacent disciplines.• Strong working knowledge of offshore environmental loading, fatigue, corrosion, installation constraints, marine operations, and lifecycle considerations for permanently submerged systems.• Demonstrated experience independently reviewing engineering calculations, analyses, drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.• Ability to identify questionable assumptions, missing interfaces, design risks, and analysis gaps and drive them toward resolution.• Experience providing technical guidance, review, or mentorship to less-experienced engineers.• Ability to interpret and critically review drawings, models, load cases, specifications, analyses, and supplier documentation.• Strong technical writing, engineering judgment, and drawing-review skills.Nice to HaveAdvanced degree in a relevant engineering discipline.• Subsea production systems, offshore wind, subsea power infrastructure, subsea data centers, naval systems, or permanently submerged critical infrastructure.• Deep-water or long-duration subsea service, heavy-lift operations, module lowering, cable lay, ROV intervention, recovery operations, or marine warranty.• Experience leading multidisciplinary subsea design packages or serving as technical lead for major offshore systems or interfaces.• Experience reviewing and approving engineering calculations, drawings, specifications, or supplier deliverables within a formal engineering quality or configuration-control system.• OrcaFlex, SACS, SESAM, MOSES, ANSYS, Abaqus, SolidWorks, Siemens NX, or equivalent; Python or MATLAB.• DNV, ABS, API, ASME, ISO, NORSOK, or USCG standards and classification frameworks.• Wet-mate connectors, subsea electrical distribution, pressure housings, cathodic protection, or subsea instrumentation.• Nuclear facilities, high-integrity pressure systems, or other highly regulated industries.Compensation & BenefitsBase salary, meaningful equity, and full benefits, including 401(k), medical/dental/vision, paid time off, company holidays, and parental leave, subject to company plans and policies.
