Apply & track with Apply EdgeSenior Systems Administrator | $180k | Boston | Finance | Azure | VMwareRole: Snr Systems AdministratorLocation: Boston, MA (2 days onsite)Salary: $140,000 - $180,000Position SummaryWe are seeking an experienced Senior Systems Administrator to lead the reliable, secure, and efficient operation of enterprise IT infrastructure and end-user technologies. This role is responsible for administering servers, networks, storage, virtualization platforms, operating systems, and cloud services while ensuring the highest levels of security, performance, and availability.The position combines hands-on technical expertise with project leadership, vendor management, mentoring, and strategic planning. The successful candidate will serve as a senior technical resource, providing guidance across the IT function while delivering exceptional support to internal stakeholders.This role regularly involves handling sensitive and confidential information. Professionalism, integrity, sound judgment, and discretion are essential.Key ResponsibilitiesMaintain, monitor, and optimize enterprise servers, virtualization platforms, storage systems, and network infrastructure.Administer cloud and hybrid environments, including productivity platforms, cloud services, and SaaS applications.Monitor critical systems, logs, alerts, and scheduled processes to ensure operational stability.Install, configure, patch, and upgrade operating systems, infrastructure components, and business applications.Implement and maintain security controls, access management, vulnerability remediation, and incident response procedures.Collaborate with business leaders, employees, external partners, and technology vendors to support operational and strategic initiatives.Coordinate vendor relationships related to support, maintenance, upgrades, and issue resolution.Manage business-critical applications throughout their lifecycle, including deployment, administration, optimization, upgrades, and retirement.Support data protection initiatives through backup, disaster recovery, business continuity, and data retention processes.Maintain technical documentation, procedures, diagrams, and operational runbooks.Lead infrastructure projects, including migrations, system upgrades, modernization efforts, and technology implementations.Provide timely and professional technical support, taking ownership of issues through resolution or appropriate escalation.Technical QualificationsExperience administering Microsoft 365 technologies, Active Directory, SharePoint, and Exchange Online.Strong knowledge of Windows Server environments, desktop operating systems, directory services, and database platforms.Solid understanding of networking fundamentals, firewalls, VPN technologies, and cybersecurity best practices.Experience managing server virtualization platforms, such as VMware vSphere or equivalent technologies.Knowledge of identity and access management technologies, including multi-factor authentication (MFA) and single sign-on (SSO).Experience supporting cloud infrastructure and hybrid environments preferred.Experience with enterprise backup and recovery solutions preferred.Qualifications & ExperienceMinimum of 3 years of systems administration experience in a professional IT environment.Bachelor's degree in information technology, Computer Science, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.Relevant industry certifications are preferred.Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to work effectively across technical and non-technical audiences.Self-motivated with strong organizational and time-management skills.Demonstrated accountability and ownership for delivering results.Ability to manage complex issues while maintaining positive working relationships.Flexible team-oriented mindset with a customer-service focus.Strong discretion when handling confidential, sensitive, or business-critical information.High ethical standards and professional integrity.Willingness to support a broad range of IT responsibilities, from end-user support to advanced infrastructure administration.Reporting StructureThis position reports to the IT Infrastructure Manager or designated technology leader.Work ScheduleThis is a full-time, exempt position operating primarily during standard business hours, Monday through Friday. Occasional evening or after-hours work may be required to support maintenance windows, system upgrades, operational processes, and business continuity needs.A hybrid work arrangement may be available based on business needs and management approval.
