New York Metropolitan Area | Primarily Remote with Occasional Client-Site WorkFull-Time | $90,000-$120,000Solve The Problems Other Engineers EscalateGEM Technologies is looking for an experienced Senior Systems & Infrastructure Engineer who enjoys solving difficult technical problems and taking ownership of them through resolution.This is a hands-on senior infrastructure position, not a management role or traditional help desk position. You will be one of the technical resources our team and clients rely on for complex infrastructure issues, production incidents, escalations, migrations and projects across multiple client environments.We are looking for an engineer who can step into a difficult situation, troubleshoot across technologies, determine the root cause, communicate clearly with the people involved, and remain accountable until the issue is resolved.If you enjoy being the engineer brought in when standard troubleshooting has not solved the problem, this may be a good fit.What You'll DoYou will work across multiple client environments with different technologies, configurations and business requirements. Your responsibilities will include:Own the investigation and resolution of complex infrastructure incidents and escalationsAdminister and troubleshoot Windows Server, Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS and DHCPSupport Microsoft 365 and Entra ID environments, including identity, authentication, MFA and Conditional AccessTroubleshoot and support virtualization environments using VMware and/or Hyper-VDiagnose networking issues involving firewalls, VPNs, VLANs, routing, switching and connectivitySupport backup, disaster recovery and business continuity systemsPlan and execute infrastructure migrations, upgrades and modernization projectsPerform root-cause analysis and implement or recommend changes that prevent recurring problemsUse PowerShell, scripting, automation and other tools where they can improve reliability and efficiencyCreate and maintain clear technical documentationWork directly with clients, vendors and other GEM engineers during projects and technical incidentsProvide occasional onsite support at client locations in the New York City metropolitan areaWhat We're Looking ForWe care more about demonstrated technical depth, troubleshooting ability and ownership than a perfect list of certifications or products on a resume.Strong candidates will have substantial hands-on experience supporting production IT infrastructure and personally resolving complex technical problems.You should have strong experience in most of these areas:Microsoft InfrastructureWindows Server and Active DirectoryGroup Policy, DNS and DHCPMicrosoft 365 and Entra IDIdentity, MFA and Conditional AccessVirtualization and Core InfrastructureVMware vSphere/ESXi and/or Microsoft Hyper-VServer and storage infrastructureBackup and disaster recoveryNetworking and SecurityFirewalls, VPNs, VLANs, routing and switchingNetwork and infrastructure troubleshootingSystem hardening, EDR, MFA and related security technologiesYou should also be comfortable communicating directly with clients and explaining complex technical issues to both technical and nontechnical audiences.Experience working for an MSP, technology consulting firm or other multi-client environment is strongly preferred. Candidates must be willing and able to provide onsite support when required.RequirementsExperience That Will Set You ApartWe are particularly interested in candidates with meaningful hands-on experience in one or more of the following:Microsoft Exchange Server and hybrid Exchange environmentsCitrix Virtual Apps and Desktops (CVAD)Citrix NetScaler / ADCAdvanced VMware infrastructureAdvanced networking and firewall troubleshootingVeeam or similar backup and disaster recovery platformsPowerShell scripting and automationInfrastructure migrations and major upgradesCandidates should bring strong, hands-on proficiency across most of these technologies, with deeper expertise in several areas.
