Our events and installations take place all over the world. We've delivered work for countless global brands including Google, Apple, Nike, Samsung, Netflix and Burberry, spanning everything from one-off event technology to permanent installations.We're a London-based studio, but our installations and activations show up everywhere from Bognor Regis to New York, and this role will involve both UK and international travel.Each project brings technicians together with our developers, fabricators, producers and designers to turn creative ideas into technical reality – it's a small, hands-on team where the work is varied and your technical judgement genuinely shapes how things get built.ROLE OVERVIEWThis is a hands-on technical role supporting the delivery, maintenance and development of photo, video and experiential capture systems – including the permanent installations that underpin our growing recurring-revenue business.The role combines senior technical knowledge and project support with responsibility for the technical workshop, equipment management and purchasing.Reporting into the Senior Technical Production Manager, you will act as a senior technical point of contact for the wider team, supporting other technicians with preparation, fault-finding and project delivery. You'll work closely with our developers, fabricators, producers and designers to turn creative ideas into technical reality, from first concept through to a fully installed, running system.The role is primarily office and workshop based, with regular site work in London and occasional UK and international travel.KEY RESPONSIBILITIESInstallations & Permanent Systems- Support and maintain The Flash Pack's permanent installations — fault-finding, maintenance, repairs and system upgrades — helping keep our recurring-revenue client sites running reliably- Lead or support technical installations, maintenance visits and de-rigs in the UK and internationally- Install, configure, test and troubleshoot technical systems, adapting plans where site conditions or requirements changeTechnical Operations & Project Support- Support the technical delivery of projects from initial planning and testing through to installation and operation- Work with producers and other teams to turn creative requirements into practical and reliable technical solutions- Assess technical feasibility and recommend appropriate equipment, systems and approaches- Identify technical risks and requirements relating to equipment, power, networking, access and installation- Support the preparation, configuration and testing of technical systems before deployment- Maintain high standards of technical workmanship, equipment preparation, cabling and system presentationTechnical Support & Problem Solving- Act as a senior technical point of reference and escalation for other technicians- Diagnose and resolve faults across capture systems, computers, cameras, lighting, displays, printers, networking, cabling and associated hardware- Use structured and efficient fault-finding techniques to identify the cause of technical issues- Develop practical alternative solutions when the original technical approach is not possible- Make appropriate technical decisions when project or site conditions change- Escalate specialist software, development or networking issues where appropriateWorkshop & Equipment Management- Take responsibility for the day-to-day technical operation and organisation of the workshop- Coordinate equipment preparation, testing, packing, maintenance and repairs- Ensure equipment is correctly stored, labelled and maintained- Maintain appropriate stock levels of equipment, spares, components, cables and consumables- Coordinate technical preparation across multiple concurrent projects- Identify equipment requiring repair, replacement or upgrade- Work with fabrication and production teams to integrate technical systems into bespoke installationsPurchasing & Suppliers- Research, select and purchase technical equipment, components and consumables- Maintain relationships with suppliers and rental companies, obtaining and comparing quotes where required- Make purchasing recommendations based on technical suitability, reliability, compatibility, availability and costTeam Support & Knowledge Sharing- Provide senior technical support, guidance and escalation for other technicians- Help coordinate technical preparation and installation tasks, providing practical training where required- Share knowledge of company equipment, systems, common faults and solutions to improve technical capability across the teamCORE TECHNICAL SKILLS & EXPERIENCE- Strong practical technical knowledge within photo/video capture, AV, experiential technology, events or a related technical environment- Strong fault-finding skills with a logical and efficient approach to diagnosing technical problems- Good understanding of video signal flow, connections and distribution equipment- Working knowledge of networking, including Ethernet, DHCP, static IP addressing and basic network troubleshooting- Practical soldering skills and experience working with small electronics, wiring, connectors and cable termination- Able to communicate technical information clearly and provide effective technical support to colleaguesDESIRABLE / NICE-TO-HAVE SKILLSExperience in any of the following would be beneficial but is not essential:- Basic event electrical knowledge, including safe mains power distribution and load calculations- Practical audio knowledge, including speakers, amplifiers, signal flow and troubleshooting- Experience with LED systems, including LED strip, drivers/power supplies, controllers and DMX decoders- Familiarity with DMX and basic event lighting systems- Experience with video switching, scaling, conversion, processing or distribution equipment- Photography and camera knowledge, including exposure, lighting, lenses, setup and troubleshooting
