Learning Support Assistant / Shadow Teacher — Year 2Full-time · Permanent · Semenyih / Setia EcoHill, SelangorDo you have a gift for helping a child "get it" — when the first explanation hasn't worked?We are looking for a full-time Learning Support Assistant / Shadow Teacher to work one-to-one with our son, a happy and capable Year 2 student, during the school day.This is not a role for someone to sit beside a child and supervise him. It is for someone who genuinely enjoys the moment a child understands — someone who can recognise when an instruction has not quite landed, break it into smaller steps, explain it differently, and keep going patiently until it makes sense.You will also act as the bridge between him and his teacher: understanding what each lesson is trying to achieve, adapting it so he can access it, and keeping his progress aligned with the curriculum as a whole.The childHe is a bright, friendly Year 2 student with a speech and language delay.He participates fully in a mainstream classroom, but he learns best when instructions and concepts are broken down into smaller, more manageable steps, and when language is adapted — simpler words, shorter sentences, demonstration and repetition where needed.The objective is not to do the work for him.It is to help him understand the learning well enough to increasingly do it himself.WHAT YOU WILL DO:In the classroom, alongside him:Break classroom instructions and concepts into smaller, clearer stepsRephrase, simplify or demonstrate when he doesn't understand the first timeSupport his speech, communication and comprehension throughout the dayFind creative ways of explaining concepts when the conventional explanation doesn't workKeep him engaged and focused during lessonsGive him enough support to succeed while encouraging growing independenceObserve what works for him and adapt your approach accordinglyWorking with his teacher, as the link between teacher and child:Align with the teacher on the core learning objective of each lesson, so your support always serves the curriculum rather than drifting from itAdapt lesson content, tasks and instructions so he can access the same learning as his classmates, at his own paceFeed back to the teacher on how he is responding — what landed, what didn't, and where he needs reinforcementFlag early when he is falling behind or when an approach isn't working, so adjustments happen quickly rather than after the factHelp ensure his support stays coherent: same objectives, same vocabulary, same strategies between teacher and shadowAnd throughout:Build a positive, trusting relationship with himWork collaboratively and openly with his teacher, the school, and us as his parentsWHO COULD BE A GREAT FIT?An experienced LSA, shadow teacher or teaching assistant would obviously be highly relevant. However, we are deliberately open to other backgrounds. You may also be suitable if you have experience in:Special educational needs / learning supportSpeech and language therapyOccupational therapyEarly childhood educationChild development or psychologyTeaching or classroom assistanceOne-to-one work with childrenPrevious teaching experience is not essential.
