Apply & track with Apply EdgeSummary: The Ship's Engineer is responsible for the safe and reliable operation of the engines, machinery and technical systems aboard the vessel.The role covers operation, monitoring, maintenance and repair of the vessel's mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and refrigeration systems, ensuring the vessel remains safe, seaworthy and operational.Key Responsibilities· Operate, monitor and maintain the main engine and propulsion systems.· Conduct routine engine-room checks and monitor pressures, temperatures, fuel, oil and coolant.· Diagnose and repair machinery faults, including emergency repairs at sea.· Maintain generators, pumps, compressors and auxiliary machinery.· Maintain hydraulic systems, including fishing winches, deck machinery and steering systems.· Maintain refrigeration and freezer systems used for catch handling and storage.· Maintain vessel electrical, freshwater, bilge and sewage systems.· Manage fuel systems, consumption and bunkering operations.· Complete scheduled preventative maintenance and servicing.· Maintain appropriate spare-parts and consumables inventory.· Maintain engine-room logs, maintenance records and required technical documentation.· Report machinery condition, faults and maintenance requirements to the Master.· Coordinate with shore-based technicians and shipyards where required.· Supervise engine-room personnel where applicable.· Assist with general vessel and deck duties when operationally required.Safety & Compliance· Follow the vessel's Safety Management System and safe working procedures.· Ensure machinery and engineering systems are operated and maintained to applicable safety and regulatory requirements.· Conduct required checks of fire pumps, bilge systems and other engineering emergency equipment.· Respond to machinery failures, flooding, fire and other technical emergencies.· Participate in vessel safety training, inductions and emergency drills.· Report hazards, incidents, machinery faults and equipment failures.· Comply with the Company's Drug & Alcohol Policy.· Follow lawful directions of the Master.Experience & Competencies· Minimum 3 years' relevant marine engineering experience, with documented sea time.· Hold an AMSA Marine Engine Driver 1 Certificate.· Strong practical experience with marine diesel engines and vessel mechanical systems.· Experience with hydraulic, electrical and refrigeration systems highly regarded.· Ability to diagnose faults and undertake repairs independently at sea.· Ability to maintain accurate engineering and maintenance records.· Complete required vessel safety induction and training in accordance with the vessel's Safety Management System and applicable AMSA requirements.Physical & Operational Requirements· Physically capable of undertaking demanding engineering and maintenance work at sea, including lifting up to 35 kg · Able to work shifts of up to 12 hours, including nights, weekends and overtime.· Able to safely use stairs and ladders and work within machinery and confined operating spaces.· Able to work in rough seas and variable weather conditions.
