Apply & track with Apply EdgeProps TechnicianDepartment: Technical / ProductionReports To: Technical Manager / Show ManagerLocation: Dubai, UAESalary: AED 9,000 per month, all-inclusive, including accommodation/housing, transportation, and personal living expenses in the UAE.Position OverviewThe Props Technician is responsible for the preparation, maintenance, repair, positioning, operation, and safe handling of all theatrical props and scenic elements used within a premium resident theatrical production in Dubai.This is a hands-on backstage position requiring exceptional attention to detail, technical ability, and consistency. The Props Technician ensures that all show props are correctly prepared, positioned, operated, reset, and maintained for every rehearsal and performance.The successful candidate should have professional experience in theatre, live entertainment, resident productions, concerts, or large-scale events, with strong hands-on skills in props, carpentry, fabrication, mechanical repairs, and general stage technical operations.Key ResponsibilitiesShow & Props OperationsPrepare, inspect, preset, operate, strike, and reset theatrical props for every rehearsal and performance.Ensure all props are positioned accurately according to approved show plots, cue sequences, and production requirements.Conduct pre-show and post-show inspections of all show-critical props and scenic elements.Execute backstage prop changes and cues safely and precisely during live performances.Maintain detailed knowledge of prop movements, performer interactions, backstage traffic, and show sequences.Ensure all props are fully functional, correctly positioned, and performance-ready before each show.Respond quickly to unexpected prop or scenic issues during performances to help maintain show continuity.Maintenance, Repair & FabricationMaintain, repair, modify, and refurbish props using appropriate carpentry, mechanical, fabrication, and finishing techniques.Diagnose failures and perform rapid repairs when technical issues arise before, between, or during performances.Carry out preventative maintenance to reduce the risk of show-critical failures.Perform basic carpentry, woodworking, mechanical repairs, assembly, painting, finishing, and cosmetic restoration.Assist with modifications or fabrication of props and scenic elements when required.Maintain tools and workshop equipment in safe and operational condition.Inventory & OrganizationMaintain accurate inventories of props, consumables, spare parts, tools, hardware, and maintenance materials.Monitor stock levels and communicate replacement or procurement requirements to Technical Management.Maintain organized and secure backstage prop storage and workshop areas.Ensure props are returned to their designated positions following every performance.Document damage, repairs, replacements, maintenance activities, and recurring technical issues.Production & Technical SupportCoordinate closely with Stage, Automation, Lighting, AV, Wardrobe, Show Management, and other technical departments where props interact with performers or technical systems.Support technical rehearsals, cue-to-cues, production rehearsals, installations, and show changes.Assist with scenic repairs, stage equipment, and general technical requirements where required.Ensure moving, mechanical, or performer-interactive props are inspected and safe before use.Support props and scenic requirements for photoshoots, special events, corporate functions, and venue activations.Assist the wider Technical Department when operational requirements demand additional support.Safety & Operational StandardsMaintain the highest standards of backstage safety, organization, and show readiness.Ensure props and scenic elements are operated and maintained according to established safety procedures.Immediately report any equipment, prop, or scenic condition that could create a safety or performance risk.Maintain clean, organized, and secure technical work areas.Follow all venue health and safety procedures, technical protocols, and reporting lines.Maintain discretion and professionalism when working around performers and backstage areas.Technical SkillsThe ideal candidate should have strong hands-on capability across several of the following areas:Theatrical props and scenic maintenanceCarpentry and woodworkingMechanical repairs and basic engineeringFabrication and assemblyPainting, finishing, and cosmetic restorationHand and power toolsBasic electrical troubleshootingStage and backstage technical operationsPreventative maintenanceReading technical drawings and fabrication plansInventory and workshop managementBasic rigging awarenessStage automation or mechanical stage systems is advantageousQualifications & ExperienceMinimum 3–5 years of professional experience in props, stage technical operations, scenic workshops, theatre, resident entertainment, or live events.Previous experience within a professional theatre or resident production is strongly preferred.Strong hands-on fabrication, repair, and maintenance skills.Good understanding of backstage operations and live-show safety.Exceptional attention to detail and ability to reproduce presets and show sequences consistently.Ability to perform repairs and troubleshoot technical issues under tight time constraints.Experience working around dancers, performers, moving scenery, and stage equipment is advantageous.Ability to read technical documentation, drawings, and show plots.Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with the wider Technical Department.Flexible availability for rehearsals, evening performances, weekends, public holidays, and special events.Must be available to join immediately in Dubai.CompensationAED 9,000 per month, all-inclusive.The salary is inclusive of the employee's accommodation/housing, transportation, and personal living expenses in the UAE. The employee is responsible for arranging and covering these expenses from the all-inclusive monthly salary.
