About the roleWe're hiring a hands-on Software Architect to own the technical design of our modernization and AI-first build work. You'll shape how new systems are architected, how legacy applications are modernized, and how it all fits together on .NET and Azure. This is a hands-on role: you'll still write code, prove out the hard parts yourself, and set the architectural direction that our Technical Leads build against. Architecture here is something you do, not just something you document. If you're an architect who never wanted to leave the code behind, and you like solving the genuinely hard design problems, this role is for you. What you'll doOwn the architecture for our modernization and AI-first build work, from target-state design through to how it's actually implemented.Design how legacy applications are modernized or replaced, accounting for the messy realities of the systems being moved off.Set architectural standards, patterns, and guardrails that the Technical Leads and engineers build against.Stay hands-on: prototype the hard parts, write code where it counts, and prove out designs rather than handing over diagrams.Make the key technology decisions across .NET and Azure, and stand behind them.Work closely with the Technical Leads and the Head of Engineering to keep architecture and delivery aligned.Balance the ideal design against real constraints of time, cost, and the existing landscape. What we're looking for12+ years in software engineering, with strong hands-on architecture experience on real systems.Deep expertise in .NET (Framework and modern .NET) and the Azure cloud platform.Proven experience architecting modernization or migration of legacy systems, not just greenfield design.Still hands-on with code: you can build, not just diagram.Strong grasp of system design, integration, data, and the trade-offs that come with each.Experience setting technical direction for and mentoring engineering teams.Excellent communication skills, able to explain and defend architectural decisions to both engineers and leadership.A get-it-done mindset: you drive designs to working reality rather than leaving them on paper. An AI-first mindset: you use AI tools in how you design and build, and help your teams do the same.Bachelor's or higher in computer science, engineering, or a related field.Experience in the title insurance, real estate, or financial services domain is a plus.Who thrives hereAt Stewart, we live by our DNA, and this role calls for it daily:Courageous & Honest: you make the hard design calls and name the trade-offs plainly.Customer-Oriented: you design for the business outcome, not architectural elegance for its own sake.Accountable: you own your designs all the way to working software.Winning Approach: you push through hard technical problems to a real solution.Team Focused: you raise the technical bar for every engineer who builds on your designs. Why join usYou'll own the architecture of the most forward-looking work in the organization, with the freedom to stay hands-on and the influence to shape how everything gets built. If you want to architect and build rather than choose between them, we'd love to talk.
