Software Developer - Full Stack - Senior

OverviewThe Ministry is seeking a Senior Software Developer (Full Stack) with strong expertise in the MERN stack (MongoDB, Express, React, Node.js) to support ongoing enhancements of the Ceres application.Ceres, introduced in February 2023, is a platform designed to improve the collection, management, and accessibility of plant health data. It enables stakeholders to access real-time and historical insights, supporting efficient detection and management of pest threats.The selected resource will contribute to development, enhancement, documentation, and governance of the application hosted in the Azure OPS environment.Key Responsibilities Design, develop, and implement application enhancements, bug fixes, and technical improvements Maintain and upgrade platform components within the MERN stack Update and maintain technical documentation, including: Build and deployment guides Release management documentation Operational and support documentation Develop and maintain solution design artifacts (models, diagrams, architecture documentation) Ensure compliance with Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) standards Collaborate with business and technical stakeholders to align solutions with: Functional and technical requirements Security and privacy standards Integration and cloud architecture requirements Support governance, architecture, and security review processes Provide knowledge transfer documentation and support vendor offboarding activities. RequirementsMandatory Skills & Experience 7+ years of full-stack development using the MERN stack (MongoDB, Express, React, Node.js) 4+ years of experience in technical documentation: Build books Deployment procedures Release management Support documentation Experience in: Designing and implementing application enhancements Accessibility-compliant solutions (AODA) Strong Agile development experience Knowledge of IT security best practices and authentication protocols: OAuth 2.0 SAML Experience maintaining: Solution design artifacts Architecture diagrams and models Proven ability to: Collaborate with stakeholders Align solutions with technical, security, and business requirements Experience supporting: Architecture reviews Security and governance processes Knowledge transfer and documentation experience Desirable Skills & Experience Experience with Microsoft Azure cloud environments Experience building cloud-native applications Familiarity with Government of Ontario Information and Technology Standards (GO-ITS) Experience with: Source control (Git) CI/CD pipelines DevOps tools (Azure DevOps) Exposure to agricultural data systems or analytics applications Soft Skills Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities Excellent attention to detail Effective verbal and written communication skills Experience in: Stakeholder management Requirements gathering Meeting facilitation Ability to work independently and collaboratively Proactive in identifying risks, issues, and mitigation strategies
