Software Engineer

Onyx is building the consumer trading platform for the speculation economy - bringing sports, prediction markets, crypto, and real-world events into one seamless experience.Following rapid growth, Onyx raised a $20 million Series A at a $220 million valuation, led by Payward, the parent company behind Kraken, NinjaTrader, and Bitnomial. We are building a category-defining product with a highly technical team from companies including Jane Street, DraftKings, Robinhood, and xAI.We are looking for a Software Engineer to help build and scale the systems powering a fast-moving, real-time trading platform. This is a high-ownership role with direct influence over the product, architecture, and technical roadmap.What You’ll DoBuild and scale backend services using Node.js and TypeScriptDesign APIs, database schemas, and distributed systems supporting real-time markets and trading activityWork with PostgreSQL, AWS, queues, caching, and third-party integrationsOwn projects from technical design through deployment and production monitoringImprove the performance, reliability, and scalability of core platform systemsCollaborate closely with engineering, product, and trading teams to ship quicklyWhat We’re Looking For2+ years of professional software engineering experienceStrong experience with Node.js, TypeScript, APIs, and relational databasesExperience designing and operating production systemsStrong understanding of database and API designHigh ownership, strong technical judgment, and comfort working in a fast-paced startupInterest in trading, financial markets, sports, crypto, or prediction marketsExperience with PostgreSQL, AWS, Redis, message queues, WebSockets, Terraform, or high-volume transactional systems is a plus.LogisticsLocation: NoHo, New York CitySchedule: Hybrid, with regular in-office collaborationCompensation: $175,000–$250,000 in total cash compensation, plus meaningful equityBenefits: Competitive health and employee benefits, flexible PTO, and meaningful ownership in a rapidly growing companyExperience: 2+ yearsWork authorization: Candidates must already be authorized to work in the United States.
