I am currently looking for Software Engineers on a contract basis near Fareham.Contract: 6 mths initiallyRate: Dependant on experience (circa £80 per hour Inside IR35)Clearance: Suitable candidates will ideally have Security ClearanceJob DescriptionWe are seeking a Software Engineer to join our Air Traffic Management (ATM) team, contributing to the development of safety-critical distributed systems used in operational air traffic control environments.This role combines high-performance software engineering with the intensive use of AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Microsoft 365 Copilot, GitHub Copilot), enabling increased productivity, code quality, and automation across the software lifecycle.The ideal candidate will be passionate about engineering excellence, modern development practices, and the adoption of AI to enhance software development efficiency and quality.ResponsibilitiesDesign and develop software based on system and subsystem requirementsContribute to distributed, mission-critical ATM systemsEnsure traceability between requirements, implementation, and testingPerform: Development and integration activities, Testing and validationManage and resolve software anomalies and defectsApply AI-assisted tools to improve: Development productivity, Code quality and maintainability, Automation across the lifecycleRequired QualificationsBachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering (Computer Science, Telecommunications, Mathematics, Physics, or similar)2+ years of experience in software developmentHigh level of English (written and spoken)DesirableSpanish speakerCore Technical SkillsStrong experience in: C / C++ and/or ADA,Experience with Python scripting is a plusExperience working in Linux environmentsFamiliarity with: Version control (Git / ClearCase), Issue tracking (JIRA), Requirements management (DOORS)Understanding of end-to-end software lifecycle (design, coding, testing, integration)AI-Driven Software Engineering (Key Differentiator)Experience or strong interest in using AI-powered development tools, such as: GitHub Copilot (code generation, refactoring, testing support), Microsoft 365 Copilot (documentation, analysis, automation)Ability to leverage AI for:Code generation and optimizationTest case generation and automationDocumentation generationRequirements analysis supportCode review assistance and quality improvementUnderstanding of best practices for AI-assisted coding, including:Prompt engineering for development tasksValidation of AI-generated outputs (critical in safety environments)Mindset oriented to augmenting engineering productivity with AI while ensuring safety, traceability, and complianceDomain ExperienceExperience in aeronautical or ATM systems is highly valuedExperience in safety-critical, real-time, or distributed systems is preferredKey CompetenciesStrong analytical and problem-solving skillsAbility to work in complex distributed systemsHigh attention to detail and quality (especially in safety-critical environments)Proactive mindset towards innovation and AI adoptionStrong teamwork and communication skillsValue PropositionWork on cutting-edge ATM systems deployed worldwideBe part of the transformation towards AI-driven software engineering in safety-critical domainsCollaborate in a highly technical and international environmentIf this role is of interest, please send me an updated CV to grainne@copello.co.uk and I will ring you to discuss further.
