And we’re looking for people who want to be part of it.About the roleMatillion is built around small development teams with responsibility for specific themes and initiatives. Each team is a mix of engineers with various levels of skills and experience. The Software Engineer works within a team to write, test, and release new features and fix problems in the Matillion products.What you will be doingSoftware DevelopmentA Software Engineer is expected to spend almost all of their time hands-on in the production of software for Matillion productsWork alongside senior engineers to refine and break down stories to levels implementable by developmentDevelopment and improvements in confirmation testing (unit test, API test, automation, etc.)Innovation Research projects, including prototyping, to explore future opportunitiesInvestigate new technologiesOptimise the development process through use of automation, in-house and open source solutionsSelf Development and GrowthDevelop new skills by working with other members of the teamBe a self-starter and use your own initiative to recognise areas for personal development and growthWork with the Team Lead and Manager to identify training goalsPartake in technical discussions within the teamActively identify and complete opportunities for self-training and external trainingContribute to the team’s process of continual improvementSupportResponsive support to the customer-facing colleaguesAnalysis of logs to identify issues and provide solutionsWhat we are looking forEssentialsDemonstrable Java programming ability with some understanding of underpinning techniquesObject Oriented Design and Programming Understanding of Databases and query languages (SQL)Experience of writing tests to a level of production code, using JUnit. Redshift, Snowflake, BigQuery, GWT, Gradle, Jenkins, Linux, Scripting for CLI, CICD, tool automation, etcAgile methodologies such as Scrum and KanbanWorking knowledge of public cloud platforms like AWS, GCP or Microsoft AzurePersonal Capabilities RequiredInquisitiveness- digging into problems and solutions to understand the underlying technologyAutonomy - ability to work on a task and solve problems independently Motivation - sets personal challenges and constantly looking to stretch themselvesProblem solving - recognition of problems and recasting difficult-to-solve problems in order to find unique and innovative solutionsIntegrity - honest and transparent in dealing, open to voice and accept criticism, is trustworthy and builds credibility through actionsDetail focussed - pays attention to the details and can make a conscious effort to understand causes instead of just the effectsBig picture aware - understands the scope and impact of a problem or solutionAt Matillion, we are committed to providing competitive salaries in line with market standards.
