This approach supports more equitable hiring decisions based on merit and fit rather than solely on job history.Role Description As a part-time Software Engineer Intern at Wave, you will support the design, development, and maintenance of backend services that power the hiring platform. Working in a hybrid capacity from the Amsterdam Area, with some flexibility to work from home, you will collaborate with engineers and product team members to implement features, fix bugs, and improve system performance. Day-to-day tasks include writing clean, well-documented code, contributing to APIs and microservices, reviewing code with peers, and assisting in testing and debugging. You will also help integrate new tools and technologies, participate in technical discussions, and learn best practices in software engineering, security, and scalability. Throughout the internship, you will gain hands-on experience in building reliable systems that support data-driven hiring.QualificationsFoundational knowledge in Computer Science, including algorithms, data structures, and software design principles.Skills in Software Development and Programming, with experience in at least one modern programming language (e.g., Python, Java, JavaScript, or similar).Understanding of Back-End Web Development, including working with APIs, databases, and server-side frameworks.Familiarity with Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) concepts and their application in real-world projects.Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.Ability to work collaboratively in a hybrid team environment, communicate clearly, and take initiative on assigned tasks.Interest in AI-driven products, data-intensive systems, and improving hiring processes through technology.Experience with version control (e.g., Git) and basic software testing practices is beneficial.
