Its technology is already deployed in production and supports millions of users.The NYC engineering organization is growing quickly, and this hire will help lead and scale a team while remaining closely involved in the technical work.This is not a hands-off management role.The ideal candidate may be a current Engineering Manager, Technical Lead, Senior Engineer, or Staff Engineer who has demonstrated leadership ability and wants to remain involved in architecture, code reviews, system design, debugging, and technical problem-solving.What You'll DoLead and develop a team of approximately 6–12 engineersStay technically involved through code reviews, architecture, system design, debugging, and technical decision-makingLead the development of scalable backend and customer-facing systemsPartner directly with enterprise customers to understand problems and translate them into scalable technical solutionsOwn projects from initial implementation through deployment, iteration, and optimizationLead complex engineering initiatives involving multiple engineers and cross-functional partnersCollaborate with product, design, research, and engineering teamsHelp shape technical strategy and the evolution of the company's AI platformMentor engineers through technical guidance, feedback, and career developmentMaintain a high engineering bar while supporting rapid execution and continued team growthRequired Qualifications5-8 years of professional software engineering experience1+ years of engineering management or technical leadership experienceCurrent Engineering Managers, Tech Leads, Senior Engineers, and Staff Engineers with strong leadership experience may be consideredBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field preferred, or equivalent professional experienceStrong backend or product engineering backgroundExperience building distributed systems or customer-facing production productsExperience leading multiple engineers through complex technical projects or initiativesStrong technical depth, including experience with:Code reviewsArchitecture and design reviewsSystem designProduction debuggingTechnical decision-makingStrong communication skills and comfort working directly with customersAbility to balance delegation and people leadership with continued hands-on technical involvementAbility to work 5 days per week onsite in New York CityTechnical EnvironmentThe engineering organization works primarily in Python, but exact tech-stack alignment is less important than strong engineering fundamentals and experience solving complex technical problems.Experience with the following is especially valuable:PythonTypeScriptAsynchronous programmingEvent-driven architecturesDistributed systemsProduction backend systemsAI/LLM applicationsPreferred BackgroundStrong candidates will often have experience in one or more of the following environments:Talent-dense, high-growth startupsRapidly scaling technology companiesProduct or backend engineering organizationsCustomer-facing technical environmentsQuantitative trading firms or similarly rigorous engineering environmentsHigh-ownership teams where engineers move quickly and solve ambiguous problemsLeading teams or technical initiatives involving approximately 3–8+ engineersDemonstrated fast technical or leadership progressionCandidates from larger technology companies are also encouraged to apply when their backgrounds demonstrate exceptional career trajectory, technical ownership, and rapid progression into leadership.Experience with LLMs, AI agents, agentic workflows, or multi-modal models is a strong plus, but deep product/backend engineering experience and technical leadership are the primary requirements.Third-Party Recruiting DisclosureTalent Stack LLC is an independent third-party recruiting firm representing a confidential client for this opportunity.
