We are looking for an experienced Software Engineering Manager to lead the software engineering organisation supporting a Traffic Management Systems business.This role will be responsible for engineering leadership, technology strategy, software delivery governance, AI adoption, and digital transformation. You will lead multidisciplinary teams across software engineering, architecture, AI, data, DevSecOps, platform engineering and system support, while driving the development of scalable and mission-critical intelligent transportation solutions.Key ResponsibilitiesPeople & Engineering LeadershipLead, manage and develop a high-performing multidisciplinary software engineering organisation.Coach and mentor software managers, architects, technical leads, developers, AI/data engineers, DevSecOps and platform teams.Drive performance management, competency development, succession planning and workforce capability building.Identify capability gaps and develop appropriate recruitment and workforce strategies.Software Engineering & DeliveryEstablish and govern the full Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC), from requirements and architecture through development, testing, deployment and maintenance.Define engineering standards, technical review processes, quality gates and documentation practices.Drive adoption of DevSecOps, CI/CD, automated testing and secure software development practices.Oversee software quality, delivery performance, technical risks and continuous improvement.Lead delivery across multiple projects, including geographically distributed and offshore engineering teams.Technology, AI & Digital TransformationDevelop long-term software engineering and technology roadmaps aligned with business objectives.Lead the adoption of AI, Generative AI, machine learning, advanced analytics, computer vision, digital twins and edge AI.Drive AI-enabled products, platforms and operational solutions from concept through deployment.Establish reusable AI components, platforms and engineering accelerators across projects.Define AI strategies, business cases, governance frameworks and operating models.Drive technology standardisation, automation, reuse and engineering modernisation across the organisation.Project & Technical LeadershipProvide technical and delivery leadership throughout the project lifecycle.Review software architectures, engineering plans, resource estimates, schedules and technical risks.Support system integration, testing, deployment, customer acceptance and ongoing system enhancement.Promote reuse of common platforms, frameworks, tools and engineering practices.Presales & Customer EngagementSupport tenders and proposals through solution architecture, software estimation, resource planning and delivery strategies.Participate in customer meetings, technical workshops, solution presentations and system demonstrations.Ensure software commitments are technically feasible, commercially sound and deliverable.RequirementsBachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Information Technology or a related discipline.15+ years of relevant experience, with at least 7 years in senior software engineering, technology management or delivery leadership.Proven experience leading and developing large, multidisciplinary software engineering teams.Strong experience leading AI, machine learning, data analytics or Generative AI initiatives in enterprise-scale environments.Demonstrated experience delivering AI-enabled products, platforms or operational solutions from concept to deployment.Experience defining AI strategies, business cases, governance frameworks and operating models.Strong experience managing the SDLC for complex, integrated and mission-critical systems.Experience managing multiple projects, competing resource priorities and geographically distributed/offshore teams.Strong knowledge of software architecture, DevSecOps, CI/CD, automated testing, cybersecurity and technical governance.Experience supporting tenders, technical proposals, customer engagements and solution demonstrations.Strong leadership, stakeholder management, strategic planning and organisational transformation capabilities.Able to balance engineering quality, cybersecurity, cost, schedule, operational and commercial considerations.Why JoinThis is a strategic engineering leadership opportunity to shape the organisation's software, AI and digital transformation roadmap while delivering technology that supports the future of intelligent transportation and traffic management.
