You'll manage approximately four people, including application developers and BI analysts, while remaining directly involved in architecture, technical problem-solving and delivery.The mandate combines developing the team's capabilities with accountability for application and reporting quality. AI enablement centres on integrating assisted development and analytics into everyday work, with repeatable practices for testing, review, documentation and safe use.What You'll DoManage direct reporting team, including coaching, performance reviews, career development and expectations for quality and deliveryDefine application and BI architecture, review designs and code, and check that solutions meet security, reliability and maintainability standardsWork directly with BI analysts on data models, reporting accuracy and governance, keeping reporting tied to specific business questionsResolve technical escalations while helping engineers and analysts make more decisions independentlyIntegrate AI-assisted tools into development and analytics workflows, with repeatable practices for checking outputs and using the tools safelyImprove testing, review, documentation and delivery practices across the software development lifecycleTranslate business requirements into technical options and explain the implications for quality, scope and delivery to stakeholdersCoordinate delivery with the project management office while remaining accountable for technical design, implementation choices and solution qualityBasic Qualifications5+ years of people-management experience with software engineers or BI/analytics professionals, including coaching, performance management and individual developmentHands-on application development and solution architecture experience, including decisions about code quality, security, reliability and maintainabilityPractical experience delivering BI and analytics solutions, including data models, reporting and governanceExperience improving engineering practices such as testing, technical review, documentation or software deliveryExperience translating business needs into technical designs and explaining technical choices and delivery tradeoffs to stakeholdersPreferred QualificationsExperience introducing AI-assisted tools, such as Copilot, into team workflows, including reviewing outputs and establishing safe-use practicesManagement experience spanning both application development and BI or analyticsDelivery experience alongside a project management office, with responsibility for engineering decisions distinct from project coordinationThe ChallengesYou'll be the primary technical escalation point while developing the team's independence, requiring decisions about when to intervene directly and when to coach or delegateBI responsibilities include hands-on support, but the role also needs to improve data models and reporting practices rather than become centred on producing individual reportsAI experimentation needs to become repeatable delivery practice without weakening code quality, data governance or securityYour ImpactEngineers and analysts can resolve more technical questions within the team, reducing dependence on a single escalation pointBusiness stakeholders have more reliable applications and reporting that answers defined business questionsAI-assisted development and analytics become repeatable practices with clear quality and security checks, reducing risk as their use expands
