Rio Rancho Public Schools values collaboration, professional growth, and community engagement as key components of its mission.Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Special Education Assistant position at the high school level, located at Rio Rancho High School in Rio Rancho, NM. The Special Education Assistant supports students with diverse learning needs in both special education and general education settings, following individualized education programs (IEPs) under the guidance of certified special education teachers. Daily responsibilities include assisting with classroom instruction, adapting materials, providing behavior and social-emotional support, and helping students with organization and task completion. The role also involves monitoring student progress, supporting positive classroom management, and ensuring a safe, respectful learning environment. The Special Education Assistant collaborates with teachers, related service providers, and families to promote student independence and success.Qualifications Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build positive, respectful relationships with students, staff, and families.Clear and professional communication skills, including the ability to follow instructions and provide accurate information to educators and caregivers.Background or coursework in education, special education, or related fields, with an understanding of basic instructional support strategies.Experience or comfort working with children and adolescents in school or youth-focused settings.Skills in behavior management and supporting students with social, emotional, and behavioral needs in a calm, consistent manner.High school diploma or equivalent required; additional college credits or a degree in education or related field preferred.Ability to follow IEPs, implement accommodations, and maintain confidentiality in accordance with school and legal requirements.Capacity to work collaboratively in a team environment and to adapt to changing classroom needs.Basic computer skills and the ability to use educational technology and data entry systems as needed.Ability to meet district hiring requirements, including background checks and any mandated training or certifications.
