Special Education Needs Coordinator

Location: ChennaiClient: A Leading International SchoolA leading international school is looking to appoint an experienced SEN Coordinator / Special Educator to lead its inclusive education and special education programmes, support students with diverse learning needs, and work closely with teachers, parents, and school leadership.Key ResponsibilitiesDevelop and evaluate special education curricula and inclusive learning frameworks.Coordinate and oversee the implementation of Individualised Education Plans (IEPs).Support students with diverse learning and developmental needs across the school.Ensure inclusive education practices comply with relevant educational regulations and school policies.Lead, mentor, and support Special Educators, mainstream teachers, and support staff.Coordinate with teachers to develop appropriate classroom strategies and student support plans.Facilitate communication between teachers, parents, school leadership, and other stakeholders.Oversee departmental resources, assistive technology, and classroom requirements.Support the recruitment, training, supervision, and professional development of special education staff.Monitor the effectiveness of inclusion programmes and recommend improvements.Educational QualificationsCandidates should meet one of the following pathways:Master’s in Special Education, orMaster’s in Inclusion and Disability Studies from a reputed institution in India or overseas, along with a Bachelor’s Degree / Diploma in Special Education.ORM.A. (or Bachelor’s) in Child Development along with an M.A. in Special Education.Preference will be given to candidates with specialisation in Learning Disabilities and Autism (High Functioning).Additional qualifications or experience in Cerebral Palsy, Hearing Impairment, Visual Impairment, Autism with cognitive impairment, and Intellectual Disability would be an advantage.ExperienceMinimum 5–7 years of experience in a senior capacity as a Special Educator / SEN Coordinator.Experience in a mainstream school following an International, CBSE, or ISC curriculum is required.Experience working in a Special School would be an added advantage.Ideal Candidate ProfileStrong understanding of inclusive education, special education, and IEP frameworks.Ability to coordinate effectively with teachers, parents, support staff, and school leadership.Strong leadership and team management skills.Experience supporting students with diverse learning and developmental needs.Good understanding of assistive technologies and inclusive classroom practices.Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.Organised, empathetic, and student-focused approach.
