The school emphasizes individualized instruction, academics, social-emotional development, adaptive/life skills, therapeutic services, and preparation for greater independence. (Cooke School)This is an excellent opportunity for a Special Education Teacher who enjoys working in a highly specialized, collaborative school environment with small classes and multidisciplinary support.ResponsibilitiesServe as the Head Teacher within a specialized special education classroomDevelop and implement individualized, developmentally appropriate instruction for students with disabilitiesAdapt curriculum and instructional strategies to meet individual student needsSupport students' academic, social-emotional, communication, behavioral, and adaptive skill developmentCollaborate closely with related service providers, including speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, counselors, and other educational professionalsDevelop and maintain appropriate documentation, lesson plans, progress reports, and student recordsParticipate in student planning and educational team meetingsCommunicate effectively with families and school staff regarding student progress and needsIncorporate real-world and experiential learning opportunities that promote independenceCreate a structured, supportive, and inclusive classroom environmentCooke's educational model uses small classes and a multidisciplinary approach, with academics integrated alongside life skills, social-emotional development, and therapeutic services.Student PopulationCooke serves students with a range of developmental and learning needs.
