Special Education Teacher - Emotional/Behavioral Day School

Job SummaryJourney Academy is seeking a Special Education Teacher to work with students in our Emotional Disabilities Program who have significant behavioral, social-emotional, and academic needs.In this role, you will develop and implement individualized educational plans, provide academic and behavioral support, and collaborate with families and school staff to promote student growth. Your ability to build positive relationships and create a structured, supportive learning environment will help students develop confidence, independence, and success.ResponsibilitiesDevelop and implement engaging, standards-based lesson plans and instructional activitiesUtilize various teaching methods and materials to support diverse learning needsEstablish and communicate clear learning goals, routines, and classroom expectationsMonitor student progress, assign and grade work, and provide regular feedbackMaintain accurate student records in accordance with applicable laws and school policiesFoster a structured, supportive classroom environment and implement effective behavioral and de-escalation strategiesParticipate in school meetings, professional development, and parent communicationsStay current with best practices, curriculum updates, and instructional strategiesCollaborate with staff and team members to provide consistent educational and behavioral support aligned with state standardsDirect and support paraprofessional(s)Implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) for assigned studentsAdapt classroom activities and materials to meet individualized learning needsProvide personal care assistance for students as neededAdminister standardized and developmental assessments, including ILEARN and IAM, as applicableIntegrate relevant technology into instruction and student learningMaintain accurate and compliant documentation as required by DOE and Journey Academy policiesMaintain student and staff confidentialitySupport students’ social-emotional development, self-regulation, and positive behaviorRespond constructively to feedback and participate in ongoing professional growth opportunitiesPerform other duties as assigned to support the school communitySalaryCompensation: From $50,000.00 per year, based on experienceNon-Discrimination StatementJourney Academy is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate based on race, color, national origin, sex (including gender identity or sexual orientation), disability, age, religion, military status, ancestry, or genetic information.Contact:Stacy Attar (219) 402-7322stacyattar@journeyacad.comJourney Academy Royal Campus 811 Royal Rd.
