The role involves coordinating propagation teams, monitoring plant growth and development, maintaining propagation facilities, and ensuring safe and efficient nursery operations.Job Responsibilities1. Propagation Planning & ProductionFollow nursery production plans and propagation schedules.Organize daily propagation activities to achieve production targets.Monitor production progress and report any delays or challenges.Support the timely delivery of plants for nursery and project requirements.2. Propagation OperationsSupervise propagation activities including:Seed sowingStem cuttingsAir layeringPlant divisionEnsure propagation work is carried out according to nursery procedures.Monitor rooting and germination progress.Ensure proper watering, labeling, and handling of propagated material.Maintain high standards of work quality within the propagation area.3.Greenhouse & Propagation Facility ManagementSupervise daily activities within propagation houses and greenhouses.Monitor irrigation, mist systems, ventilation, and shading.Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient working environment.Report maintenance requirements for propagation facilities and equipment.Ensure proper housekeeping standards are maintained.4. Plant Care & MonitoringMonitor plant health and overall growing conditions.Identify and report pest, disease, or growth issues.Coordinate corrective actions as required.Ensure healthy establishment of propagated plants.Remove unhealthy or damaged plant material when necessary.5. Health, Safety & ComplianceFollow all company health and safety requirements.Ensure workers use required PPE.Promote safe work practices at all times.Conduct routine safety and housekeeping checks.Comply with nursery operational procedures and company standards.Job RequirementsQualification and ExperienceBachelor's Degree or Diploma in Horticulture, Agriculture, Plant Science, Nursery Management, or a related field. Minimum 3-5 years of hands-on experience in commercial plant propagation and nursery production operations.Proven experience in large-scale propagation of ornamental trees, shrubs, groundcovers, grasses, succulents and native plant species.Advanced knowledge of propagation techniques including seed propagation, stem cuttings, air layering, grafting, budding and division.Experience in developing and implementing propagation protocols for new and challenging plant species.Strong understanding of propagation environments, irrigation systems, misting systems, growing media, plant nutrition, and integrated pest management.Experience supervising propagation teams and managing high-volume production programs to meet operational targets.SkillsExpert knowledge of plant propagation techniques and nursery production systems.Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills related to rooting, germination, plant health, and production bottlenecks.Ability to conduct propagation trials, analyze results, and develop improved production methods.Strong planning and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple production schedules simultaneously.Leadership and team management skills with the ability to train, mentor, and evaluate propagation staff.Ability to maintain accurate production records, propagation data, and inventory reports.Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and nursery management systems.Strong communication, reporting, and coordination skills.Ability to work under pressure and deliver production targets within strict timelines.Thorough understanding of health, safety, and environmental regulations related to nursery operations.Job ContextThe Propagation Specialist is responsible for leading and overseeing all propagation activities to support nursery production targets and project requirements.
