BHI brings all three together—empowering doctors to extend care beyond the clinic, enabling staff to streamline and centralize management, and ensuring patients receive TDD in the comfort of their homes from experienced nurses.BHI connects physicians, provider staff, and patients to deliver better home infusion.Position SummaryThe Specialty Pharmacy Technician serves as a key member of the specialty pharmacy team, supporting patients receiving immunoglobulin (IVIG and SCIG) therapy for primary immunodeficiency, secondary immunodeficiency, autoimmune, neurologic, and other specialty disease states. This role coordinates patient onboarding, benefits investigation, prior authorization support, medication fulfillment, nursing coordination, refill management, and ongoing patient engagement to ensure timely access to therapy and optimal treatment outcomes.The position requires strong knowledge of specialty pharmacy operations, payer requirements, and patient support services while maintaining compliance with state, federal, and accreditation standards.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesPatient Care CoordinationServe as a primary point of contact for patients receiving IVIG and SCIG therapies.Coordinate onboarding activities for new patient referrals.Educate patients regarding the specialty pharmacy process, shipment scheduling, and refill procedures.Conduct adherence and refill assessments to ensure therapy continuity.Monitor patient therapy schedules and proactively address barriers to treatment.Document patient interactions and clinical updates in pharmacy management systems.Specialty Pharmacy OperationsProcess prescriptions and refill requests in accordance with state and federal regulations.Perform prescription data entry and medication order preparation.Review orders for completeness and coordinate resolution of missing information.Assist pharmacists with medication dispensing activities and workflow management.Coordinate medication shipments and delivery logistics.Monitor inventory and specialty medication availability.Provider & Stakeholder CollaborationCommunicate regularly with physicians, nurses, case managers, and manufacturer support programs.Obtain clinical documentation needed for authorization and reimbursement.Coordinate renewals, updated prescriptions, and clinical assessments.Escalate clinical concerns to pharmacists and clinical team members when appropriate.Compliance & DocumentationMaintain accurate and timely documentation in electronic pharmacy systems.Adhere to HIPAA, accreditation standards and company policies and procedures.Participate in quality assurance and accreditation activities.Support audit preparation and compliance reviews.QualificationsRequiredHigh school diploma or equivalent.Active Pharmacy Technician registration/certification as required by state regulations.National certification (PTCB).Knowledge of insurance verification, prior authorizations, and specialty medication workflows.Strong organizational, communication, and customer service skills.PreferredExperience supporting IVIG and/or SCIG therapies.Minimum 2 years of specialty pharmacy or infusion pharmacy experience.Home infusion or specialty pharmacy experience.Understanding of immunology, neurology, rheumatology, or rare disease therapies.Experience with manufacturer patient support programs and copay assistance resources.Knowledge of TJC, URAC, NABP and ACHC specialty pharmacy standards.The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
