This role requires strong hands-on expertise with PostgreSQL and a solid grasp of SQL fundamentals applicable across relational databases and modern data warehouses. You'll be responsible for writing efficient, scalable queries and helping the team diagnose and resolve performance bottlenecks.Key Responsibilities:Design, write, and optimize complex SQL queries, stored procedures, and functionsAnalyze and tune query performance, identifying bottlenecks in execution plansEvaluate and recommend indexing strategies based on query patterns and WHERE/JOIN clause usageReview and refactor nested queries/subqueries for performance and maintainability, choosing appropriate alternatives (CTEs, joins, window functions) where beneficialCollaborate with backend engineers and data teams to design efficient schemasMonitor and troubleshoot slow-running queries in production environmentsDocument database design decisions, query optimization rationale, and best practicesRequired Qualifications:4+ years of professional experience as a SQL Developer or similar roleStrong expertise in PostgreSQL, with working knowledge of SQL as applied to other RDBMSs and data warehouses (e.g., MySQL, SQL Server, Snowflake, Redshift, BigQuery)Deep understanding of query performance factors: indexing strategy, execution plans, query planning, and optimizer behaviorProven ability to analyze and rewrite nested queries/subqueries for performance improvementsSolid grasp of database fundamentals: normalization, indexing (B-tree, composite, partial, covering indexes), locking, transactions, and isolation levelsExperience using EXPLAIN/EXPLAIN ANALYZE (or equivalent) to diagnose and resolve slow queriesFamiliarity with database monitoring and query profiling tools
