The Sr. Software Engineer will be responsible for analysis, design, development, debugging and modification of embedded control software for electronics applications such as controllers, PFC based 3-phase Active Rectifiers, Motor Control, DC-DC Convertors and AC Drives for harsh and hazardous environments for the commercial aerospace products.ResponsibilitiesDesign and implement advanced control algorithms for power electronic applicationsDevelop control system software requirements to write embedded code for 3-phase Active Rectifier, Motor Control electronicsContributes to system design and independently develops subsystem designs that meet the requirements. Considers tradeoffs between requirements, cost and reliability in the choice of a design approachTest/debug power electronics controllers, Source and assembly level debuggingOptimize software performance by working with control system engineersWork with suppliers to review control software designLead or support software design review activitiesInterface with vendors, customers and other departments on technical issuesIndependently owns, or leads a team for small/medium size software developmentReviews, checks and approves work done by peers and lower level engineersProvides guidance and training to lower level engineersAssesses standard work and support or lead improvement projectsUnderstands how various groups (engineering, industrialization, operations) work together and is able to navigate through the companyAnalyze customer requirements and validate them by analysis/modeling/prototyping or based on existing product performanceCreate software requirements specification and hardware/software interface control documentsCreate verification plan for validating product compliance to requirementsAble to interface independently with technical analysts to define the software designAble to interface independently with existing and/or new suppliers and OEMsCreates design tools to help define the product design, capture lessons learned and improve rotating equipment development processCreates software design document that covers design analysis, notes, and specific guidelines followedCreate design verification test procedure (DVTP) and report (DVTR)Perform product performance testing and analysis to ensure that requirements are met and generate test reportsIndependently finds or creates solutions to problems requiring research, resourcefulness and creativitySupports feasibility, development, validation, verification, and qualification testing at Monogram and at external test laboratoriesUtilizes sound technical problem solving to support ongoing projectsFollows sound engineering principles to ensure designs meet airworthiness standards, customer requirements and internal standardsReviews critically and presents findings and trade studiesProvides input to program and project managersPerform RTCA/DO-178 based process tasks and generate PSAC, SDP, SVP, SCMP, SQAP, SCI, and SAS documentsUnderstands, follows, and promotes, policies and proceduresProcess engineering changes in the development of water and waste systems and equipmentDocuments findings and trade studiesOther duties as assignedQualificationsBachelors or Master’s Degree in electrical or computer engineering from a recognized ABET accredited institution or equivalent5+ years of software design experience in aerospace industry with RTCA/DO-178BRequired SkillsHands on programming skills in programming languages such as C/C++, VHDL/Verilog and/or scripting languages such as Perl/Python or Power ShellKnowledge in embedded systems architecture and programmingProgramming skills in LabVIEWProgramming skills for developing firmware on TMS320F28XX DSP, PIC16XX, MC68XXX or X86 DSPs/MicrocontrollersPreferred SkillsAnalytical – Knowledge and understanding of active rectifiers, PFC, inverter and motor control software designDesign – Design knowledge of CAN, ARIN429, I2C, SPI, RS232 software modulesTechnical Skills – Ability to use electrical circuit simulation tools such as PSPICE and system level simulation tools such as PSIM/MATLAB/SimulinkInterpersonal Skills – Possess a strong work ethic and commitment to excellence. Ability to communicate and ability to work in a team environment.
