Staff Perception Engineer | Industrial Robotics | Berlin | €180K + AI Futures are partnered exclusively with one of the most exciting Physical AI startups in Germany on a Search for a Staff Perception Engineer. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to build the perception layer that finally makes factory robotics general-purpose. Funded by Tier 1 VCs, the company is developing vision-language-action models that let robots understand and manipulate parts they have never seen before - replacing months of per-part programming with systems that generalise on day one. Early deployments are live on real production and logistics lines with major German industrial customers, with long-term applications across assembly, warehousing and any environment where parts arrive unstructured.RoleBuilding the perception stack that turns raw camera and depth data into grasp and manipulation decisionsDeveloping 6D pose estimation, segmentation and grasp point generation for novel, unseen objectsTraining and deploying vision and vision-language models for zero-shot and few-shot object understandingClosing the sim-to-real gap between simulated training environments and live customer linesOptimising models for real-time inference on edge hardware inside cycle-time constraintsBuilding data engines - capture, curation, annotation and retraining loops fed by live deploymentsWorking directly with robot control and manipulation teams on end-to-end system behaviourOwning the perception performance of deployments in customer factories, from pilot cell to productionRequirements5+ years experience in computer vision, robot perception or robot learningStrong academic background in Computer Vision, Robotics, Machine Learning or related disciplineStrong proficiency in Python and PyTorch, with solid C++ for production and real-time componentsDemonstrable experience with 3D perception, point clouds and pose estimation for robotic manipulationExperience training and shipping deep learning models into production, not research aloneROS / ROS2 in a production settingExperience deploying and optimising models on constrained edge hardwareHigh level of independence, ownership and comfort with the pace and ambiguity of an early-stage companyNice to haveExperience with vision-language or vision-language-action models, or with robot foundation modelsSimulation experience - Isaac Sim, MuJoCo or similar -and sim-to-real transferBackground in bin picking, unstructured part handling or warehouse automationPublications at CVPR, CoRL, ICRA or RSSGerman language skillsIf you'd like to explore this opportunity, please send your CV to will.childs@aifutures.group or apply directly to this job.
