This is a full-time, direct hire position offering a hybrid work schedule in San Francisco (South Park).POSITION OVERVIEWThis is an exceptional opportunity to join a rapidly growing AI startup as a founding member of the engineering team. The Staff Software Engineer will play a critical role in shaping the company's technical architecture, building production-grade AI systems, and developing software that powers billions of dollars in commercial transactions. Working directly with the founders, you'll lead the design of scalable distributed systems, influence technical strategy, and help establish the engineering culture as the organization continues to grow.PERKSCompetitive annual base salary of $300–325k, depending on experienceMeaningful early-stage equityComprehensive medical, dental, and vision insuranceHigh-impact role with significant technical ownership and architectural influenceRESPONSIBILITIESArchitect, design, and build highly scalable backend services, distributed systems, and cloud-native infrastructure.Develop and deploy production-grade AI solutions, including LLM applications, agentic workflows, and intelligent automation pipelines.Lead full-stack development using technologies such as React, TypeScript, Python, Go, and Node.js to deliver seamless customer experiences.Own technical initiatives from architecture and design through deployment, production support, and continuous optimization.Partner closely with founders and customers to translate complex business challenges into scalable software solutions.Drive engineering excellence by leading architecture reviews, establishing best practices, and ensuring high-quality, maintainable code.Mentor engineers and help shape the team's technical standards, development processes, and engineering culture.Continuously improve system performance, reliability, security, and scalability while evaluating and adopting emerging technologiesQUALIFICATIONSBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline12+ years of professional software engineering experienceProven experience building and deploying scalable production software in high-growth startup environmentsStrong background in backend engineering, distributed systems, cloud infrastructure, and software architectureHands-on experience developing production AI, LLM, or agent-based applicationsExperience designing reliable data processing pipelines and scalable APIsExcellent communication, collaboration, and technical leadership skillsAbility to thrive in a fast-paced, highly ambiguous startup environmentExperience with large-scale data processing systems and cloud-native architectures a plusLogistics, supply chain, commodities, or financial technology experience preferredExperience mentoring engineers and leading complex technical initiatives desiredCOMPENSATION & BENEFITSThis full-time position offers an annual base salary range of $300-325k, commensurate with experience, plus early-stage equity.
