Review special needs with the surgeon before surgerySet up the operating room and instrument tables before each casePass instruments and hold retractors during proceduresPerform surgical counts of sponges, sharps, and instrumentsAssist with patient draping and positioningHandle surgical specimens according to protocolPrepare used instruments for decontamination and sterilizationFollow AORN and OSHA guidelines for a safe work environment

Requirements
