Our client, a well known regional bank, is seeking an experienced Loan Workout department manager to lead its loan workout, special assets, and recovery activities. This is a key managerial role with responsibility for overseeing a portfolio of distressed, criticized, and non-performing commercial credits while developing and executing strategies to maximize recoveries, manage risk, and protect the Bank's financial interests.Key ResponsibilitiesLead and manage the Bank's Loan Workout & Asset Recovery team, including portfolio management, staffing, performance management, and professional development.Oversee a portfolio of criticized, classified, non-performing, and otherwise distressed commercial loans and related assets.Develop and execute comprehensive workout and resolution strategies designed to maximize recovery while appropriately managing credit, legal, reputational, and operational risk.Evaluate borrower financial condition, collateral values, guarantor support, repayment capacity, liquidity, and other relevant factors in determining appropriate resolution strategies.Lead negotiations involving loan modifications, restructurings, extensions, settlements, forbearance arrangements, asset sales, and other resolution alternatives.Direct the management and disposition of commercial real estate, business assets, and other collateral when recovery strategies require liquidation or foreclosure.Work closely with outside counsel, receivers, appraisers, brokers, consultants, and other third-party professionals involved in the resolution of troubled assets.Provide senior management and executive leadership with clear assessments of portfolio risk, expected recoveries, resolution timelines, and potential loss exposure.Prepare and present recommendations regarding significant credits, workout strategies, charge-offs, reserves, settlements, and other material decisions to appropriate credit and executive committees.Maintain strong documentation and oversight of workout strategies, borrower communications, negotiations, collateral, legal proceedings, and resolution activities.Monitor portfolio performance and develop reporting and analytics regarding criticized assets, non-performing loans, recoveries, charge-offs, and workout outcomes.Partner with Credit Risk, Commercial Banking, Credit Administration, Finance, Legal, Audit, and Compliance to ensure appropriate governance and control of problem assets.Ensure workout activities are conducted in accordance with Bank policies, applicable laws and regulations, and sound banking practices.Identify emerging portfolio trends and recommend enhancements to credit administration, risk management, and problem-loan processes.Serve as a subject-matter expert and senior escalation point for complex or sensitive credit situations.Foster a culture of accountability, sound judgment, collaboration, and disciplined risk management.QualificationsBachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Economics, or a related field; advanced degree or relevant professional designation is a plus.10+ years of progressively responsible experience in commercial banking, commercial credit, special assets, loan workout, restructuring, or asset recovery.Significant experience managing complex commercial and/or commercial real estate credits.Demonstrated experience leading loan workouts, restructurings, settlements, foreclosures, liquidations, or other recovery strategies.Prior management or team leadership experience, with the ability to develop and lead experienced professionals.Strong understanding of commercial lending, credit analysis, collateral valuation, loan documentation, and credit risk management.Experience negotiating with borrowers, guarantors, attorneys, investors, and other stakeholders.Strong financial analysis and problem-solving capabilities.Excellent written, verbal, negotiation, and presentation skills.Ability to exercise sound judgment and maintain confidentiality when dealing with sensitive borrower and credit matters.Strong understanding of banking policies, regulatory expectations, and risk management principles related to distressed and classified assets.Leadership ProfileOur client is seeking a pragmatic and commercially minded leader who can navigate complex credit situations with professionalism, discipline, and sound judgment.
