Systems Engineer

We are Nori Robotics (YC S26) and we build affordable humanoids whose intelligence scales with our fleet. We are looking for engineers excited about robotics and willing to take initiative and ownership at an early-stage startup.Scope: Develop the software that runs on-board our robots while the fleet scales: including but not limited to the motion and teleop runtime, the gateway between cloud and robot, navigation, and on-robot recovery and logging.What you'll work onReliability and recovery: health monitoring, watchdogs, and recovery paths so robots can be supported remotely.Motion, teleop, and command arbitration across autonomous, operator, and scripted control, including safety interlocks.Robot-side security: session and command authorization enforcement.Navigation, perception, and telemetry, involving frequent real hardware validation as part of the iteration loop.RequirementsStrong C++ and Python on embedded Linux; comfortable with real-time constraints, threading, and process supervision.Experience with robot middleware, control loops, and safety-critical interlocks.Nice to have: Experience building and debugging software on physical hardware, including intermittent field failures.Skills and toolsLanguages: C++17+, PythonRobotics: ROS 2, URDF, MoveIt or equivalent motion planning, Nav2 or similar navigation stacks.Platform: Linux (systemd, udev, cgroups), real-time kernels, Docker, cross-compilation, Jetson/ARM targets.Comms and control: WebRTC/ZeroMQ, serial protocols, PID and trajectory control.Tooling: git, CI (GitHub Actions or similar), unit and hardware-in-the-loop testing.Nice to have: Isaac Lab / Isaac Sim, MuJoCo, or Gazebo; low-latency teleop or VR input (OpenXR); embedded security (secure boot, device identity); audio/perception pipelines.This role is in-person out of our Manhattan office.
