Apply & track with Apply EdgeThis part-time, 1099 contract position involves teaching three back-to-back weekly classes on Tuesday afternoons/evenings, creating syllabi and lesson plans, choreographing pieces for our annual spring recital in May, and maintaining clear communication with student families and BMCA administration. Our program prioritizes accessibility, creativity, and artistic expression—and we are looking for an instructor who shares those values.ResponsibilitiesInstruction & Curriculum: Lead three weekly Tuesday afternoon classes: Tap 1 (Ages 5–7), Tap 2 (Ages 8–12), and Musical Theater/Jazz 2 (Ages 10–16). Create syllabi and lesson plans in advance and be able to share them with BMCA staff upon requestRecital Preparation & Choreography: Choreograph routines for the annual spring recital scheduled for Sunday, May 16, 2027 at Owen High School. Select and edit music, assist with student measurements and costume selection, lead your class’s dress rehearsals, and support recital production and promotion.Family Communication & Administration: Manage direct email communication with student families regarding class updates, ensuring BMCA staff is CC’d on all correspondence.Studio Maintenance & Safety: Adhere to studio care, maintenance, and closing protocols to ensure a clean, safe, and respectful space.Promotion & Content Capture: Assist with promotional efforts by capturing photos and videos during class (without disrupting instruction) for BMCA marketing and organizational use.Substitutes & Availability: Coordinate and pay substitute instructors for any absences, and maintain availability for all scheduled Tuesday class times and key recital dates.QualificationsProfessional Experience:Prior experience teaching Tap and Jazz / Musical Theater dance to children, tweens, and teens in a studio, school, or community setting.Strong command of tap technique, percussive footwork, rhythm, Broadway jazz, and character portrayal.Ability to facilitate engaging, developmentally appropriate, and supportive classes for both beginner and intermediate levels.Strong organizational, administrative, and time-management skills.Clear communication skills for interacting with families, students, and administrative staff.Preferred QualitiesExperience working with dancers of diverse ages, abilities, and backgrounds.A warm, encouraging teaching presence that builds student confidence, encourages creative risk-taking, and fosters fun memories and studio community.Comfort incorporating early dance history, improvisation, and storytelling into lessons.Specifics
