Founded in 1983, the school relocated to Yonkers in 1990, where it operates from the former Blessed Sacrament High School at 45 Park Avenue. The Westchester School provides specialized educational services to over 250 children with special needs across two program sites in Yonkers. Team members have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on students’ lives while working within a mission-driven community.Role Description Teachers and Therapists at The Westchester School are responsible for delivering individualized instruction and therapeutic services to students with diverse learning and developmental needs. This full-time, on-site role in Cortlandt Manor, NY involves developing and implementing lesson plans and treatment plans, tracking progress, and maintaining accurate documentation in accordance with school and regulatory standards. Daily tasks include collaborating with multidisciplinary team members, participating in IEP meetings, and communicating regularly with families and caregivers to support student goals. Team members are expected to create safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environments, use evidence-based practices, and adapt strategies to meet each student’s unique needs. The role also includes ongoing professional development and participation in school-wide initiatives that enhance student services.Qualifications Demonstrated skills in Teaching and Education, with experience supporting learners with special needs.Proficiency in Lesson Planning and Training to design and deliver structured, goal-oriented instruction or therapy.Strong Communication skills to collaborate with colleagues, engage families, and document student progress clearly.Relevant professional licensure or certification for teaching or therapy in New York State (e.g., special education certification, speech, occupational, or physical therapy license), as applicable.Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Education, Special Education, Psychology, Therapy-related field, or a closely related discipline.Experience working in school-based or pediatric settings and familiarity with IEPs and related regulations is highly beneficial.Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team, demonstrate cultural humility, and support an inclusive environment.Organizational skills, reliability, and commitment to ongoing professional learning and evidence-based practice.
