Technical Auditor

Role OverviewWe are looking for an experienced Marine Engineer to join us as a Technical Auditor, responsible for providing independent technical oversight and visibility across our fleet.The role is primarily field-based and remote, with the Technical Auditor travelling to vessels on a planned rotation, staying on board, and carrying out thorough technical inspections and audits. The objective is to carryout thorough vessel inspections, identify defects, assess the condition of the vessel and its equipment, monitor outstanding technical requirements, carryout training to the onboard team in the right use of equipment, maintenance of the equipment, systematic troubleshooting/RCA philosophy, Safety culture, training on Mariapps (PMS system) and provide clear, actionable reporting to the company's Technical Superintendents.Key ResponsibilitiesTravel to vessels as per the annual inspection and rotation plan and remain on board for the required period to carry out detailed vessel inspections.Conduct thorough, hands-on inspections of vessel machinery, equipment, systems documentation and general technical condition.Identify, document, prioritise and follow up on technical defects, deficiencies, repairs and maintenance requirements.Prepare to standardize the vessels – marking on manhole doors, painting of machinery, painting of various walkways, etc. marking on the air vents, etc., conduct Saturday routines, drills on board, etc. Prepare a clear defect list and distinguish between:Items that can be rectified or closed during the vessel visit.Items requiring further action by the vessel, management company, superintendent or shore team.Items requiring spares, specialist attendance, repairs or follow-up.Verify whether previously reported defects have actually been rectified and properly closed.Review the availability and condition of critical and essential spares, and highlight shortages or urgent requirements.Identify recurring technical issues, poor maintenance practices, equipment deterioration and potential operational risks.Coordinate closely with the company's Technical Superintendent and provide recommendations on required corrective actions.Where appropriate and within the scope of authority, assist the vessel team in resolving or closing technical defects.Where the vessel's management company or vessel crew does not provide adequate cooperation, clearly report the issue to the Technical Superintendent and shore management for intervention.Evaluate the crew quality on board & report to respective vessel superintendent. Provide daily reports while on board, including open defects, defects closed, spares required, repairs pending, observations and any other matters requiring shore-side attention.Before disembarking from each vessel, provide a final status report clearly identifying all outstanding technical matters and required follow-up actions.Maintain clear visibility of the technical condition and outstanding requirements of vessels visited, enabling the shore team to prioritise actions across the fleet.Support the Technical Superintendent in following up on open items after the vessel visit when required.Escalate any critical safety, machinery, operational or compliance-related concern immediately to the appropriate shore management personnel.Maintain professional independence while working with vessel crew, Masters, Chief Engineers, management companies, and shore-based teams.Fleet Coverage & RotationThe company presently operates a fleet of approximately 20 vessels, and the Technical Auditor will be expected to visit vessels on a planned rotational basis throughout the year.Approximately 6–8 months of the year may be spent on board vessels, depending on the vessel schedule and inspection requirements.The role requires a high level of mobility and willingness to undertake extended international travel and vessel assignments.During periods off rotation, the individual will not have routine operational responsibility but will be expected to remain reasonably available for communication and technical clarification when required.The successful candidate must be agreeable to travel & be onboard various vessels for a duration of approximately 240 days per year away from shore, subject to vessel schedules and operational requirements.Candidate ProfileChief Engineer or Second Engineer with substantial practical marine engineering experience.Minimum 2-3 years of seafaring experience on offshore DP vessels is mandatory.Experience can be a combination of main fleet and offshore vessels, provided the candidate has the required offshore DP vessel experience.Strong practical understanding of marine machinery, technical systems, maintenance, repairs, troubleshooting and vessel operations.Experience identifying and assessing technical defects and determining appropriate corrective actions.Strong understanding of planned maintenance, vessel machinery, critical equipment, spare parts and repair requirements. Hands on knowledge on Mariapps is mandatory. Ability to independently inspect a vessel and identify issues that may not be immediately apparent through routine reporting.Strong report-writing and communication skills, with the ability to provide concise and actionable technical reports.Comfortable coordinating with Technical Superintendents, Masters, Chief Engineers, vessel crew and third-party management companies.Should have the confidence and professional maturity to carry out inspections independently and raise concerns where required.Strong attention to detail and a practical, hands-on approach to technical problem-solving.Willingness and ability to travel extensively and remain on board vessels for extended periods.
