Technical Development Manager – Renewable Energy

RoleClimate17 have partnered exclusively with a growing renewable energy company to appoint an experienced Technical Development Manager.The role will support the development of commercial and industrial renewable energy projects across the UK, with a focus on solar PV, alongside battery storage and EV infrastructure.ResponsibilitiesManage a pipeline of behind-the-meter solar PV, BESS and associated distributed energy projects from early-stage development through to investment readiness.Work with commercial partners to identify, assess and progress new development opportunities.Coordinate external and internal stakeholders across planning, grid, engineering, procurement, legal, commercial and project delivery.Manage relationships with DNOs, landowners, ICPs, EPC contractors, consultants and other project stakeholders.Support negotiations relating to land rights, leases, grid offers, planning requirements and commercial agreements.Lead project meetings and ensure development programmes, actions and key milestones remain on track.Support project financial modelling, commercial assessment and investment decision-making.Maintain project cashflow forecasts and provide development updates to stakeholders.Prepare and coordinate information required for internal investment approval processes.Provide market intel covering project opportunities, industry trends and competitor activity.Support the development and improvement of internal processes as the development portfolio grows.RequirementsMinimum 5 years’ experience within behind-the-meter / C&I solar PV development.Strong understanding of the technical and commercial development of solar PV projects.Experience managing renewable energy projects through the development lifecycle.Good understanding of UK grid applications and connection offersKnowledge of UK planning/permitted development requirements for renewable projects.Understanding of land agreements; Options to Lease, leases and associated land rights.Knowledge of CDM requirements.Understanding of project finance and financial modelling terminology.Experience working with EPC contractors and the wider solar supply chain.Understanding of Private Wire PPAs would be advantageous.Exposure to BESS and/or EV infrastructure would also be beneficial.Degree in engineering, science, finance or another relevant discipline preferred.Comfortable managing multiple projects, stakeholders and deadlines simultaneously.Able to work autonomously and take ownership of projects.
