Technical Lead

CompanyOctomedia is an award-winning B2B media platform with a portfolio covering retail, FMCG, small business, franchising and e-commerce.In 2014, the business was seven people, one publication and one office. Today, we operate in six countries, have over 10 publications and over 45 colleagues.We love what we do, but at the same time know the meaning of hard work. We connect and engage through print, websites, video, social, events, experiences and reports.About the RoleThis is a hands-on technical leadership role.  You'll set architecture direction, lead a small development team, and still write code yourself. You'll own how our systems are built, turn business needs into well-scoped features, and keep delivery moving week to week. You'll work closely with our strategic product lead, who owns overall product vision, while you own technical execution end-to-end.This role suits an experienced developer ready to lead, who wants ownership of both the technical direction and the team, without stepping away from the codebase.ResponsibilitiesLead and manage the development team, including running daily standups and sprint planningOwn technical architecture decisions across API design, database design, and overall system structureTranslate business needs into product features by gathering requirements from departments and turning them into clear, detailed tasksManage the UX designer's workload and prioritiesTake on occasional hands-on coding, particularly for smaller tasks and quick fixesManage cloud infrastructure and services across our hosting, CDN, and cloud providersEnsure delivery stays on schedule and to quality across sprintsRequirementsSolid software engineering background — you can read, review, and write code, and developers respect your technical judgmentProven experience leading a development team in a lead or senior capacityStrong grasp of full-stack architecture: relational databases, API design, and modern JavaScript frameworksExperience managing cloud infrastructure and third-party servicesAbility to translate business requirements into technical specs and actionable tasksComfortable balancing technical leadership with hands-on codingExcellent communication skills for working across development, design, and non-technical departmentsFluent in modern engineering practices: Git workflows, CI/CD, automated deployment and code reviewExperience running agile/sprint-based workflowsNice to HaveExperience with PostgreSQL and modern serverless/edge function architecturesExperience with Vue.js and/or ReactWordPress familiarityBackground working alongside marketing teams. Visa sponsorship is available for the right candidate, subject to eligibility.
