Technical Lead – Enterprise Web Platforms (Liferay / Azure)

About the RoleDigital Next UAE is seeking an experienced Technical Lead – Enterprise Web Platforms (Liferay / Azure) to join a major, large-scale government digital transformation programme in Abu Dhabi.The Technical Lead will take day-to-day technical ownership of an enterprise digital experience platform supporting a large portfolio of government websites.This is a hands-on technical leadership role, not a project management position. The successful candidate will lead engineering teams, make and challenge technical decisions, review architecture and code, resolve complex technical issues, and ensure solutions are scalable, secure, maintainable and production-ready.Key ResponsibilitiesProvide day-to-day technical leadership across the web platform programme.Lead implementation of enterprise solutions based on Liferay DXP and Microsoft Azure.Translate solution architecture and business requirements into practical technical designs and implementation plans.Lead and mentor developers and provide technical direction across multiple parallel delivery workstreams.Review solution designs, code, integrations and technical deliverables.Define and enforce development standards, reusable components, integration patterns and engineering best practices.Guide Liferay architecture including sites, components, templates, content structures, workflows, permissions, APIs, extensions and integrations.Provide technical leadership for Java-based backend development and modern frontend technologies.Work with DevOps teams across Development, Test, Staging, Pre-Production, Production and Disaster Recovery environments.Guide CI/CD, Git, automated deployment, release management, monitoring and operational readiness.Lead technical implementation of REST APIs and integrations with enterprise and government systems.Support Elasticsearch/search architecture, performance optimisation and troubleshooting.Ensure security, scalability, performance, high availability and maintainability across the platform.Identify technical risks, dependencies and architectural gaps and drive them through to resolution.Work closely with solution architects, UX teams, cybersecurity, DevOps, project management, vendors and client stakeholders.Participate in technical workshops and clearly communicate technical recommendations to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.Required Experience8+ years of professional software engineering experience.At least 3+ years in a Technical Lead, Lead Developer, Technical Architect or equivalent technical leadership role.Strong experience with Liferay DXP and enterprise web/DXP implementations.Strong Java / enterprise application development experience.Experience with modern frontend technologies such as JavaScript/TypeScript and React or comparable frameworks.Strong experience designing and integrating REST APIs and enterprise systems.Experience with Microsoft Azure or comparable enterprise cloud environments.Strong understanding of CI/CD, Git and DevOps practices.Strong understanding of application security, performance, scalability and high availability.Proven experience leading and mentoring technical teams.Strong troubleshooting, analytical and problem-solving skills.Strong English communication and stakeholder-management capabilities.Highly PreferredHands-on experience with Liferay DXP 7.x, Liferay Cloud or Liferay PaaS.Experience as a Liferay Technical Lead, Liferay Architect or Lead Liferay Developer.Experience delivering large-scale multi-site or multi-entity web platforms.Experience with Microsoft Azure and Elasticsearch.Experience with containers, Kubernetes and cloud-native architectures.Experience with large-scale CMS/DXP and content migration programmes.Experience delivering UAE/GCC government or major public-sector digital transformation programmes.Experience with bilingual Arabic/English digital platforms.Knowledge of accessibility, WCAG, SEO and enterprise web standards.What We're Looking ForWe are looking for someone who combines deep technical expertise with strong technical leadership.You should be comfortable moving between architecture discussions, code reviews, troubleshooting, DevOps, integrations, performance analysis and stakeholder meetings.This role is particularly suitable for an experienced Liferay Technical Lead, Liferay Solution Architect, Lead Liferay Developer or Senior Java/DXP Engineer ready to take technical ownership of a major enterprise programme.Location: Abu Dhabi, UAE – On-siteEmployment: Full-timeCandidates are encouraged to highlight their Liferay/DXP experience, major platforms delivered, team leadership experience, current location and notice period when applying.
