Technical Superintendent – Petroleum Tankers

Location: Houston, TXA leading international ship owner and operator is seeking an experienced Technical Superintendent to provide technical oversight and support for vessels within its petroleum tanker fleet.This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Chief Engineer or First Assistant Engineer (1AE) with petroleum tanker experience to transition ashore, as well as experienced Technical Superintendents with a strong seagoing engineering background.ResponsibilitiesProvide technical oversight and day-to-day engineering support for assigned tanker vessels.Monitor vessel machinery performance, reliability, maintenance, and overall technical condition.Work closely with Chief Engineers and vessel management teams to troubleshoot technical issues and minimize downtime.Oversee planned maintenance, repairs, equipment upgrades, and vessel technical projects.Coordinate and supervise dry dockings, shipyard periods, major repairs, and equipment overhauls.Review maintenance requirements, technical reports, deficiencies, and corrective actions.Manage vessel repair and maintenance budgets, purchasing requirements, and contractor/vendor performance.Support vessels during class, flag, regulatory, and other technical inspections and audits.Ensure vessels remain compliant with company standards and applicable class, flag, SOLAS, MARPOL, and regulatory requirements.Conduct vessel visits and technical inspections and work closely with marine, operations, HSSEQ, procurement, and commercial teams.Identify reliability issues and opportunities to improve vessel performance, maintenance practices, and operating costs.QualificationsChief Engineer or First Assistant Engineer (1AE) sailing experience aboard petroleum tankers required.Chief Engineer experience strongly preferred.Strong hands-on knowledge of tanker machinery, propulsion systems, auxiliary equipment, planned maintenance, and vessel technical operations.Experience with dry dockings, major repairs, troubleshooting, class requirements, and regulatory inspections highly desirable.Previous shore-based experience as a Technical Superintendent, Port Engineer, Fleet Manager, or similar role is advantageous but not required for a strong sailing candidate.Strong organizational, troubleshooting, and decision-making skills.Ability to effectively communicate with vessel crews, management, shipyards, vendors, class, and other stakeholders.Ability to travel domestically and internationally for vessel visits, dry dockings, and other fleet requirements.This is an opportunity for an experienced tanker engineer to take ownership of the technical performance of assigned vessels while joining a well-established international shipping organization.
