Apply & track with Apply EdgeInterSearch Ireland is partnering with our client, a leading medical device organisation, to appoint a Technology Development Manager.This is a senior R&D leadership role providing scientific, technical and people leadership across technology development. The successful candidate will lead a multidisciplinary team of scientists and engineers, advancing innovative materials, technologies and applied research to support current and future product platforms.Key ResponsibilitiesProvide scientific and technical leadership in the development and application of advanced materials and technologies for medical devices.Define and manage the technology development portfolio, from concept evaluation and proof of concept through to transfer readiness.Lead applied research, scientific investigations and technology feasibility assessments, ensuring robust technical decision-making and documentation.Lead, develop and mentor a multidisciplinary team of scientists and engineers, including coaching and performance management.Partner across Product Development, Engineering, Operations, Quality and Marketing to integrate technologies into viable product and platform solutions.Act as a subject matter expert, establishing technical standards and ensuring scientific rigour.Manage external research collaborations, suppliers and academic/commercial partners.Ensure adherence to regulatory requirements, including EU MDR and FDA, as well as internal and health & safety standards.Develop and manage research and technology development budgets, balancing innovation, risk and financial stewardship.Set technical direction and priorities aligned with wider business strategy.Education & ExperienceBachelor’s Degree with 8–12 years of related experience.Minimum 5 years of people leadership experience in research, development or technology development roles.Proven experience leading applied research or technology development programmes.Preferred ExperiencePhD in a relevant scientific or engineering discipline.Experience developing polymer materials, surface modifications or coating technologies for medical devices.Experience managing external research collaborations or suppliers.Strong financial and budget management capabilities.Experience working within global, cross-functional R&D organisations.The successful candidate will be an adaptable, collaborative and performance-focused leader, capable of making high-level technical and resource decisions while developing people and driving innovation within a regulated R&D environment.
