Tenure-track faculty, Film & Video Arts Production

The Department of Communication at Bridgewater State University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Film and Video Arts Production beginning Fall 2027. The Department of Communication offers three majors: Film and Video Arts Production, Communication and Media Studies, and Public Relations. The department currently serves over three hundred undergraduate majors, including more than one hundred students enrolled in Film and Video Arts Production. We are a thoughtful, collegial department committed to preparing students to meaningfully engage with their communities and the wider world. Our students bring a wide range of experiences and perspectives to their creative work. As of Spring 2026, half of our FVAP majors are first-generation college students, 43% are commuters, and 30% come from low-income backgrounds. Additionally, 32.5% identify as women, 26.3% identify as students of color, and 17% identify as LGBTQIA+.Film and Video Arts Production is a growing major that combines technical training with a broad academic foundation in film and media. Students develop original work while building the creative confidence, technical skills, and collaborative practices needed to bring their visions to life. Our program offers foundational video production courses and specialized study in areas such as screenwriting, sound, editing, and cinematography. This is an exciting time to join us: we are undertaking a significant renovation of our production facilities while continuing to strengthen the major. Candidates with expertise in digital cinematography and/or digital post-production are especially encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will teach courses across the Film and Video Arts Production curriculum, including Film/Video Production I and II, Cinematography, Advanced Video Editing, and other courses aligned with the candidate’s strengths and the evolving needs of the program. The candidate will also contribute to the university’s Core Curriculum by teaching film and media studies courses for students from across the university.The successful candidate will teach in-person courses in the fall and spring semesters, with a standard teaching load of four 3-credit courses per semester. The position includes advising and mentoring undergraduate students, department and university service, and participation in shared program responsibilities. These responsibilities may include supporting the Filmmakers Society, the annual student showcase and awards, and other student-focused initiatives.
