Apply & track with Apply EdgeWe are looking for a Testing & Commissioning Engineer to join their engineering team in Shiga, Japan, supporting the testing, commissioning, and deployment of high-power gyrotron systems for advanced energy and nuclear fusion projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop test plans and detailed test procedures for high-power gyrotron systems, including test fixtures and measurement systems.
- Conduct Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) at the company's facility in Shiga, Japan.
- Lead or support Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), commissioning, and equipment handover at domestic and overseas customer sites.
- Perform electrical and high-voltage measurements and evaluate equipment performance and operating conditions.
- Conduct millimeter-wave measurements including output power, frequency, mode patterns, reflected power, and arc detection.
- Perform conditioning operations across high-voltage, vacuum, and cooling subsystems and optimize system operating sequences.
- Develop measurement and data acquisition systems and analyze test results to verify equipment performance.
- Support startup planning and safety design for new test facilities, including test ranges, beam dumps, shielding, and interlock systems.
- Investigate technical issues during testing and commissioning and identify root causes through measurement and on-site observation.
- Compile and analyze test data and prepare technical reports, test documentation, and commissioning records.
Requirements
- 3+ years of experience in testing and commissioning of industrial equipment, electrical systems, research equipment, or similar technical systems.
- Experience in project engineering for large-scale equipment from test planning through commissioning and handover.
- Experience preparing test plans, test procedures, examination guidelines, technical reports, and commissioning documentation.
- Experience with electrical measurement, high-voltage equipment, measurement systems, or data acquisition.
- Experience designing or operating measurement systems and analyzing test data.
- Ability to troubleshoot technical issues and identify root causes using measurement and observation.
- Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally for commissioning activities.
- Intermediate English proficiency with the ability to read and write technical documentation and participate in technical discussions and meetings in English.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with millimeter-wave or microwave measurement systems.
- Experience with high-voltage, vacuum, cooling, or other complex equipment conditioning operations.
- Knowledge of Design of Experiments (DoE) and statistical data analysis.
- Knowledge of interlock and safety system design, including IEC 61508 or similar standards.
- Experience with thermal imaging or infrared thermography.
- Knowledge of Japan's Radio Act, RF exposure protection guidelines, or electrical installation standards.
- Experience in nuclear, fusion, power generation, research facilities, or advanced energy projects.
- Chief Electrical Engineer or Radiation Protection Supervisor certification.
- Japanese language proficiency at JLPT N3 level or above.Ideal Candidate:
