Apply & track with Apply EdgeTo support the successful execution of our power and infrastructure projects, we are seeking an experienced Testing & Commissioning Engineer to ensure the reliable and efficient commissioning of electrical systems.Position Overview:The Testing & Commissioning Engineer will be responsible for the commissioning of HV/EHV substations, power systems, and electrical infrastructure, ensuring compliance with project specifications, safety regulations, and performance standards. The role involves conducting various electrical tests, troubleshooting system issues, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver fully functional electrical installations.
Key Responsibilities
Testing & Commissioning of Electrical Equipment:Perform testing, pre-commissioning, and commissioning of HV and EHV substations (132kV, 220kV, 400kV).Conduct primary and secondary injection tests for transformers, switchgear, protection relays, and control panels.Execute circuit breaker timing tests, insulation resistance tests, and transformer oil testing.Verify SCADA, relay protection systems, and communication protocols for substation automation.System Performance Evaluation & Troubleshooting:Analyze and interpret test results to identify system malfunctions or deviations.Diagnose faults in circuit breakers, CTs, PTs, relays, transformers, and protection schemes.Implement corrective actions and coordinate with engineering teams for issue resolution.Compliance & Quality Assurance:Ensure all commissioning activities comply with SEC (Saudi Electricity Company), IEC, IEEE, and NETA standards.Maintain accurate test reports, commissioning records, and as-built documentation.Participate in HSE (Health, Safety, and Environment) programs to ensure safety compliance during testing activities.Coordination with Project Teams & Clients:Work closely with project managers, design engineers, and site teams to ensure seamless project execution.Coordinate with clients, consultants, and third-party testing agencies to meet project milestones.Attend technical meetings and provide detailed progress reports on testing and commissioning activities.System Integration & Final Handover:Ensure successful integration of protection and control systems with SCADA/DCS.Conduct final acceptance tests (FAT) and site acceptance tests (SAT).Facilitate project handover by preparing operation and maintenance manuals and training plant personnel.Process Improvement & Innovation:Recommend process improvements and testing methodologies to enhance efficiency.Stay updated on emerging technologies in testing, protection, and automation systems.Develop standard operating procedures (SOPs) for testing and commissioning activities.
Qualifications
Education:Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Power Systems Engineering.Experience:Minimum 5+ years of experience in testing and commissioning of substations, switchgear, and protection systems.Hands-on experience in 132kV, 220kV, or 400kV substations is highly preferred.Key Skills:Proficiency in relay testing and protection coordination.Hands-on experience with testing equipment such as OMICRON, Doble, Megger, and Fluke.Strong understanding of SEC standards, IEC, IEEE, and NETA regulations.Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills for fault diagnostics and rectification.Ability to work under pressure and meet project deadlines.Preferred Certifications:SEC (Saudi Electricity Company) approval or certification is an advantage.NETA Level II/III, PMP, or CEng (Chartered Engineer) certification is a plus.
