Role OverviewDevelop original textile prints for Carter & White’s Womenswear and Girlswear collections, working closely with the Fashion Designer. Translate creative direction into moodboards, print concepts and fully editable artwork for sampling and production across different fabrics and garment styles. Placement print development will be for Womenswear only.

Key Responsibilities

Understand the Creative Director’s vision and develop moodboards presenting relevant research, visual references, motifs and colour palettes.Research print trends and colour directions in line with seasonal collection themes.Create original artwork, including florals, botanicals, abstract designs and other motifs suited to the collection brief.Develop all-over repeats, borders and coordinated print variations for Womenswear and Girlswear, and placement prints for Womenswear.Create and refine colourways based on the collection palette and feedback.Adapt print scale, layout and placement to individual garment styles, including coordinating Womenswear and Girlswear designs.Prepare accurate print mock-ups on supplied garment sketches to support design reviews and approvals.Apply placement artwork to supplied digital garment patterns, accounting for seams, panels, seam allowances and print continuity across adjoining pieces.Understand how print direction affects cutting layouts and fabric consumption. Develop two-way or non-directional repeats where suitable to allow more efficient arrangement of pattern pieces and reduce fabric wastage, while respecting fabric grain and garment requirements.Prepare production-ready artwork with accurate repeats, dimensions, colour references and clear placement instructions.Supply all artwork as fully editable source files, with organised layers, editable design elements and all linked assets, allowing colours, motifs, scale and layouts to be revised.Ensure all files are clearly named, correctly sized and supplied at the required resolution, with approved versions clearly identified.Work with the design, pattern-making, production and supplier teams to ensure artwork is interpreted correctly during sampling and production.Revise and finalise approved artwork within collection and production deadlines.Maintain an organised archive of artwork, colourways, mock-ups and approved production files.Additional Responsibility — Hybrid or In-Person Role OnlyReview physical strike-offs for colour accuracy, print quality, scale and placement on the intended fabric, and communicate required corrections.Skills and Experience:Qualification in Textile Design, Print Design, Fashion Design or a related field.5–7 years of relevant experience developing textile prints for fashion.A strong portfolio demonstrating original artwork, all-over repeats, borders and Womenswear placement prints, including mock-ups on sketches and artwork applied to digital garment patterns.Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator is essential.Strong drawing, composition and colour skills, with an aesthetic suited to a luxury fashion brand.Ability to interpret the Creative Director’s vision and translate it into moodboards and cohesive print designs.Practical understanding of garment construction and digital patterns, including seams, panels, seam allowances and print alignment.Understanding of repeat construction, print direction and their effect on cutting layouts and fabric consumption.Knowledge of textile printing processes and how prints translate onto fabrics such as linen, cotton, silk and blends.Experience with CLO3D or a similar programme is an advantage for creating 3D garment mock-ups and renders.AutoCAD experience is an advantage for working with CAD/pattern files.Ability to respond to feedback and manage multiple designs within seasonal deadlines.Strong attention to detail and clear communication with design and production teams.
