This position may be structured as a full-time combined Spanish and Music role or as separate part-time Spanish and Music positions, depending on each candidate’s experience, expertise, and interest.ABOUT AURORA SCHOOLAurora is an independent, progressive TK–8 school committed to academic excellence, emotional intelligence, and social engagement. Specialist teachers are an integral part of the Aurora experience, bringing deep expertise and creativity while collaborating with colleagues to create a connected and engaging TK–8 program.ABOUT THE POSITIONOur Spanish program emphasizes meaningful communication and language acquisition through Comprehensible Input and other engaging, proficiency-oriented practices. Students build confidence in understanding and using Spanish while exploring the cultures and perspectives of Spanish-speaking communities.Our Music program balances foundational musical knowledge and skills with creativity, exploration, and student interest. Students sing, play instruments, create and perform music, collaborate with others, and develop their confidence and identities as musicians. Performances and other authentic opportunities to share learning are important parts of the program.We are excited to welcome an educator, or educators, who will bring strong subject-area knowledge, joyful and responsive teaching, and a desire to continue strengthening our Spanish and Music programs across TK–8.THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL:
- Design engaging, developmentally appropriate instruction for students across grades TK–8
- Build inclusive, relationship-centered learning environments where students feel known, respected, and ready to learn
- Establish clear routines and expectations that support student independence, collaboration, and meaningful participation
- Differentiate instruction to support a range of learners, strengths, experiences, and neurodiverse needs
- Develop a coherent progression of skills and learning goals across grade levels
- Use assessment, observation, and reflection to understand student growth and inform instruction
- Collaborate with classroom teachers, Middle School Guides, specialists, and school leadership
- Communicate thoughtfully and clearly with students, families, and colleagues
- Contribute actively to performances, community celebrations, professional learning, and the broader life of the schoolWe seek a reflective, curious, and collaborative educator who brings a commitment to equity and belonging, openness to feedback, and enthusiasm for teaching students across developmental stages. Experience with progressive, inquiry-based, experiential, or project-based education is preferred.Candidates interested in the full-time combined position should have demonstrated experience and strength in both Spanish and Music. Candidates with expertise in one discipline are strongly encouraged to apply for a part-time position.POSITION DETAILSLocation: Aurora School, Oakland, CaliforniaStart date: September or October 2026Full-time combined Spanish and Music Teacher: $60,000–$75,000 annuallyPart-time Spanish or Music Teacher: $30–$36 per hourFull-time employees are eligible for Aurora’s benefits package, including health and retirement benefits, disability insurance, and professional development opportunities.
