Trade Compliance Manager

A prominent supplier serving manufacturing and consumer packaged goods (CPG) companies is seeking an experienced Trade Compliance Manager to lead and manage import/export compliance activities across the organization.This role will serve as the company’s subject matter expert for U.S. customs regulations, international trade requirements, tariffs, sanctions, country-of-origin rules, and import/export documentation. The Trade Compliance Manager will partner closely with Procurement, Supply Chain, Logistics, Operations, Finance, Legal, and external customs brokers to ensure products move efficiently across international borders while maintaining a strong compliance framework.The ideal candidate combines strong technical trade compliance knowledge with a practical, business-oriented approach and the ability to navigate changing global trade regulations.Key ResponsibilitiesLead the company’s overall import and export compliance program, ensuring adherence to applicable U.S. and international trade regulationsServe as the internal subject matter expert regarding U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) requirements and import/export regulationDetermine and validate appropriate HTS/HS classifications for imported products, materials, components, and finished goodsManage country-of-origin determinations, including substantial transformation analysis, marking requirements, and supporting documentationMonitor and evaluate tariffs, duties, trade remedies, and regulatory changes that could impact product costs, sourcing decisions, or supply chain strategyOversee compliance with applicable sanctions, embargoes, restricted-party requirements, and export controls, including screening processesReview transactions for compliance with OFAC regulations and other applicable government restrictionsPartner with Procurement and Supply Chain teams to evaluate the trade compliance implications of new suppliers, sourcing locations, products, and materialReview and maintain import/export documentation, including commercial invoices, packing lists, certificates of origin, customs declarations, and other required recordsManage relationships with customs brokers, freight forwarders, and other third-party trade partners, ensuring accurate and timely customs filingReview customs entries for classification, valuation, country of origin, duty treatment, and overall accuracyIdentify opportunities to reduce duty exposure through appropriate tariff engineering, preferential trade programs, free trade agreements, duty drawback, or other legally available strategiesMaintain processes for restricted-party and denied-party screening involving customers, suppliers, and other business partnersConduct periodic audits of import/export transactions and identify potential compliance gapDevelop corrective action plans and strengthen internal controls when compliance issues are identifiedSupport responses to government inquiries, customs audits, requests for information, or other regulatory mattersDevelop and maintain written trade compliance policies, procedures, SOPs, and recordkeeping standardsProvide training and guidance to employees involved in purchasing, logistics, customer service, sales, and international transactionsTrack regulatory developments involving tariffs, sanctions, customs regulations, trade agreements, and geopolitical developments and communicate potential business impacts to leadershipMaintain accurate records in accordance with applicable customs and export-control record retention requirements.QualificationsBachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, International Business, Business Administration, Logistics, Finance, or a related fieldTypically 5+ years of progressive experience in trade compliance, customs, import/export, international logistics, or a related disciplineU.S. import and export regulationsCustoms compliance and CBP requirementsHTS/HS classificationsCountry-of-origin rules and marking requirementsCustoms valuationTariffs and dutiesSanctions and restricted-party screeningOFAC regulationsExport controls, including EAR requirementsFree trade agreements and preferential duty programsExperience working with customs brokers, freight forwarders, suppliers, and international logistics providerExperience supporting a manufacturing, distribution, chemical, packaging, ingredients, industrial products, or CPG-related organization strongly preferredAbility to interpret complex trade regulations and translate them into practical business processesStrong analytical and problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detailStrong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work cross-functionally across multiple departmentsExperience developing compliance procedures, conducting audits, and implementing internal control
