Job Title: International Trade & Compliance Manager

Location: Kathmandu, Nepal

Department: International Trade & Business OperationsAbout the RoleTALIA is seeking an experienced International Trade & Compliance Manager to lead and manage our cross-border trade operations, with a primary focus on trade between China and Nepal.Our current trade portfolio includes agricultural products and food products, while also expanding into beverages, FMCG, cosmetics, beauty products, and other consumer categories.This position will be responsible for the complete trade cycle—from product import feasibility and regulatory assessment, supplier and customer coordination, commercial documentation, and payment arrangements, through transportation, customs clearance, delivery, and post-transaction risk management.We are looking for someone with real hands-on international trade experience, not only theoretical knowledge.

The ideal candidate should be able to independently identify regulatory and operational requirements, anticipate risks, solve problems, and drive a trade project from beginning to completion.Key Responsibilities1. International Trade OperationsManage end-to-end import and export projects, particularly between China and Nepal.Independently manage the full trade process, including quotation, contracting, payment, documentation, transportation, customs clearance, and final delivery.2. Trade Compliance & RegulationsMaintain up-to-date knowledge of Nepalese import regulations, Chinese export procedures, customs requirements, taxation, foreign exchange, and other applicable trade regulations.Conduct pre-import feasibility and compliance assessments for new products, including:Import restrictionsImport licenses and permitsProduct registrationHS Code classificationCustoms duties and VATProduct standardsInspection and quarantine requirementsRequired certificates and regulatory documentsIdentify potential legal, customs, tax, and regulatory risks before transactions begin.3. Agricultural & Food TradeManage agricultural and food trade projects, including:Supplier and origin coordinationProduct specifications and quality standardsInspection and quarantine requirementsPhytosanitary CertificatesCertificates of OriginFood safety and related regulatory documentationPackaging and labeling requirementsTransportation and storage requirementsImport permits and customs clearanceQuality inspection upon deliveryDamage, deterioration, and loss management(Candidates with practical experience in agricultural products, food, or fresh produce trade will be strongly preferred.)4. Trade DocumentationPrepare, review, and coordinate international trade documentation, including:Sales / Purchase ContractsProforma Invoice (PI)Commercial InvoicePacking ListCertificate of OriginPhytosanitary / Inspection Certificates (where applicable)Shipping / Transportation DocumentsCustoms DocumentationImport / Export PermitsBanking and payment documentsAccuracy Guarantee: Ensure consistency and accuracy across contracts, invoices, packing lists, shipping documents, customs declarations, and banking documents.5. Banking, Payment & Trade FinanceManage and coordinate international trade payment arrangements, including:Telegrahic Transfer (TT)Letter of Credit (LC)Advance paymentsDocumentary requirementsBanking proceduresForeign exchange-related coordinationTeam Alignment: Work closely with banks, customers, suppliers, and the Company's finance team to ensure payments and trade documents are properly aligned.(Candidates with practical LC experience are strongly preferred.)6. Logistics & Customs ClearanceCoordinate with suppliers, freight forwarders, transportation companies, customs brokers, warehouses, customs authorities, and relevant government agencies.Monitor shipment schedules, border procedures, customs clearance, duties, warehousing, and final delivery.Proactively resolve documentation discrepancies, customs issues, shipment delays, and other operational problems.7. Cost & Risk ManagementBuild and maintain landed-cost calculations covering:Landed Cost = Purchase Price + Logistics + Insurance + Customs Duties + VAT + Banking Charges + Clearance + Warehousing + Other Related CostsIdentify and manage risks relating to:PaymentDocumentationCustomsTaxProduct qualityTransportationDeliveryRegulatory complianceEscalation Protocol: Escalate significant risks to management with clear facts and practical solutions.8. SOP & Internal ControlsDevelop and continuously improve TALIA's internal trade SOPs and documentation systems.Maintain complete and traceable records for each transaction.Work closely with finance, sales, marketing, logistics, and management teams to ensure projects are executed efficiently and compliantly.Qualifications & RequirementsEducation: Bachelor’s degree or above in International Trade, International Business, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Finance, Economics, Law, Business Administration, or a related field.Experience: Minimum 3–5 years of hands-on international trade experience.Trade Knowledge: Strong knowledge of international trade procedures, documentation, and Incoterms (e.g., EXW, FOB, CFR, CIF, DAP).Regional Expertise: Practical knowledge of Nepalese import regulations/customs procedures and a good understanding of Chinese export procedures and China–Nepal trade.Industry Experience: Experience in agricultural products, food, or fresh produce trade is strongly preferred.Regulatory Compliance: Familiarity with HS Codes, customs duties, VAT, import permits, product registration, and regulatory documentation.Finance & Payments: Practical experience with TT and LC transactions.Document Review: Strong ability to review contracts, invoices, packing lists, shipping documents, and customs documents.Stakeholder Management: Experience dealing with banks, customs authorities, government agencies, freight forwarders, customs brokers, and suppliers.Soft Skills: Strong analytical, problem-solving, negotiation, and coordination skills, paired with high integrity, accuracy, and compliance awareness.Languages:Strong working proficiency in English (Required).Chinese language capability (Significant Advantage).Preferred Industry ExperienceCandidates with experience in one or more of the following sectors will be preferred:Agricultural ProductsFood & Fresh ProduceFood & BeverageFMCGCosmetics & BeautyConsumer ProductsWhat We ValueAt TALIA, we are not looking for someone who simply follows procedures or passes documents from one party to another.
