Trainee Laboratory Manager

Salary £28,000 - £32,000 per annum depending on experience.About the Job:Hill Court Farm Research is an independent laboratory specialising in the development of practical tests for the agricultural industry to help farmers improve their nutrient use efficiencies. We currently have an unique opportunity for a trainee laboratory manager to manage the team of up to 6 employees. We are looking for someone who is prepared to learn all aspects of running a successful laboratory from the bottom up. The role is intended to support succession planning as the directors look to reduce their workload in the next 5 years.What you’ll do:The job is very varied and consists of several parts (this list is not exhaustive):·       Practical: this includes all aspects of analysis like milling, weighing, preparing soil and plant samples, extractions, making solutions, quality control, running various pieces of equipment.·       Customer Interaction: calculating results, producing reports and dealing with customer queries either in person, online or by telephone.·       Scientific Research: data analysis, developing new tests and improving existing ones, presenting results at conferences and meetings.·       Operational: managing the team, booking couriers, ordering supplies, anything to ensure the laboratory operational side runs smoothly.What we are looking for:Required:·       A degree in a relevant scientific discipline·       Strong organisational skills and attention to detail·       A confident, positive, and solution-oriented mindset·       Ability to plan, work independently and thinking along·       Leadership skills to encourage and support the team effectively·       IT Literate with strong experience in Word, Excel & Outlook·       Long term commitment·       Full driving licenceDesired:·       Knowledge of farming, agronomy, plant or soil nutrition.·       Technical expertise in running analytical instruments·       Excellent verbal and written communication·       Python coding skillsWhat we offer:·       Salary progression as your skills develop·       A good work- life balance·       A nurturing learning environment·       Professional development opportunities·       Auto enrolment pension schemePlease be aware that this job may not be suitable for people with asthma or severe allergies due to the nature of the work. How to apply:Please send your CV with a covering letter to info@hillcourtresearch.co.uk no later than by the 30th of August 2026.
