Apply & track with Apply EdgeJob Purpose:The Unit Head of Mechanical & Hydraulic Maintenance ensures maximum operational availability, structural integrity, and reliability of all heavy processing machinery within the recycling facility. In a brutal, high-wear environment, this role minimizes costly unscheduled downtime by executing precise mechanical engineering practices and world-class hydraulic contamination control. The ultimate purpose is to transform reactive "break-and-fix" firefighting into a highly predictable, safe, and cost-effective maintenance operation that directly supports the plant's production and metal recovery targets.KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:1. Hydraulic & Fluid Power Engineering
- System Optimization: Oversee the troubleshooting, tuning, and maintenance of high-pressure hydraulic circuits powering mega-shears, balers, and briquetting presses.
- Contamination Control: Enforce strict oil analysis, offline filtration (kidney loops), and cooling protocols to protect sensitive proportional valves and variable displacement pumps from metal dust.
- Component Rebuilding: Manage the teardown, seal replacement, and testing of massive hydraulic cylinders, accumulators, and high-flow pumps.2. Mechanical Reliability & Heavy Asset Care
- Shredder & Mill Management: Direct the structural maintenance, rotor balancing, grid plate rotations, and wear-liner replacement schedules for industrial hammer mills.
- Drive & Transmission Systems: Optimize the laser alignment and lubrication of massive industrial gearboxes, cardan shafts, flexible couplings, and heavy-duty motors.
- Material Handling & Sorting: Maintain all mechanical elements of heavy steel-belt feeders, rubber conveyors, magnetic drums, eddy current separators, and air-classification systems.3. Shutdown Planning & Execution
- Turnaround Leadership: Lead the technical planning, scheduling, and execution of major planned shutdowns for hammer rotations, anvil rebuilding, and structural hard-facing.
- Contractor Management: Supervise external specialized mechanical, machining, and rigging crews during intense, time-critical shutdown windows.4. Workshop, Fabrication & Spares Management
- Critical Spares Safeguarding: Maintain an aggressive, highly accurate inventory of long-lead critical parts (e.g., shredder hammers, hydraulic cartridges, custom bearings, and seal kits).
- On-Site Fabrication: Oversee the machine and welding shop to ensure structural repairs, hard-face welding, and custom component modifications meet rigorous engineering standards.Qualification:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Fluid Power Technology, or a highly relevant technical field.Experience:
- 7–10 years of progressive hands-on experience in heavy industrial maintenance. At least 3–5 years must be in a scrap yard, steel mill, cement plant, or mining environment.
